Hola all!

OK while arguably (?) not a Fender I spotted a CL ad for a "FENDER 1974 MUSICMAN 410 HD 130". Looks to be in pretty dang good shape for its age, has original MM speakers, badges, reverb/tremolo pedal.

Actually I have no need for this amp although I like the brand very much, always was impressed by the sound and versatility. Price seems fair at 700 although there are no pics of the guts. Figured I'd mention it here!

Good enough for Clapton and Johnny Winter.

Clapton used HD13O 212 combos and HD130 heads with a variety of MM cabs from the mid '70s into the late '80s.

Johnny Winter used HD130 410's from the mid '70s on.

The 130's run very high plate voltages on the output tubes in full-power mode - 700 volts or thereabouts. So you have to use good quality 6CA7's. NOS tubes are best.

And the biasing is a little weird. Do a lot of research before doing it yourself, or find a tech who's familiar with MusicMan.

In the low-power mode the plate voltage is much lower. Still insanely loud and the tubes will last a very long time. (I had an '81 and the original tubes were still strong and healthy when I sold it in '88.)

The SS preamp is low gain so the master volume won't let you get a lot of crunch at low volume. If you listen to Winter or MM-era Clapton you can hear these amps have roaring distortion when cranked. But cranked is really really loud. Normal, sane people treat these as clean amps that take pedals well.

Go for the Musicman HD130...you will not regret it. Probably needs some parts replaced if they are way out of spec.

By all reports these amps were very well built while Leo Fender was involved in the organization

Joan Jett also continues to use the HD130...with a dirt pedal in front

I have a later model (1981) RD100-112...crazy loud as mentioned...and even though I can't play a single tune...I will never give it up.
Picture here with my Strat...

Lot's of information and support on the unofficial Musicman Amp Forum site...click in the "New website" section

The photo on the forum front page is the mighty 130-65...which is the lower powered version.

The later MusicMan amps went to 6L6 power tubes, as my '81 115 RD One Hundred has. Yes VERY loud, even on low power!

The RD/RP series were different than the HD's.

But the HD's varied quite a bit too. The early versions with the 12AX7 phase invertor had like 3 circuit board revisions. There were like 5 circuit board revisions with the later transistor phase invertor. Some had the ss pi on the main board, others had the pi circuit on a separate daughter board.

Some HD owners say their amps came stock with 6L6's or EL34's instead of 6CA7's.
