So I had a Super Reverb Amp repaired back in July. Before that, it was unused for at least 15 years.

I made a couple of demos with it. Had no issues, everything worked fine.

About a week ago, I was playing and the amp partially "cut out". It sounded like a preamp hooked up to speakers with the power amp turned off. Loss of volume/presence and some unwanted "farty" sounding distortion. At least a couple of times this happened, the signal returned to normal after a couple of minutes. And it was happening pretty much every time I used the amp.

I did a Google search and found a post that described pretty much exactly the same symptoms. In that case, the guy figured out that his Standby switch had gone a little wonky.

So with that in mind, I (with the amp unplugged from power) flicked the Standby switch up and down quickly and repeatedly. I did the same with the Power switch for good measure.

Fired the amp up again and the problem is gone.

My question is this: Should I proactively have the switch(s) replaced? Can I hit it with some "fader lube"? Or does this just come with the territory?

With the test you do il look to be the switch.

Always unplug amp from the wall if you have to flip the switch like you do .

Yes , good contact cleaner with lubrican may help and fix the issue. Like Deoxit, don't use Radio Shack stuff.
Put the amp to have the bat / lever of the switch up and spray around into the swich. Move the switch at less ten times.

Excellent stratele52, thanks for the help. And Deoxit is exactly what I have.
