I just bought this chassis and I am wondering if the tube layout is the same as a 1973 twin reverb silverface..
I am thinking of gutting a 68 Custom Twin Reverb and sticking this into it..

Or maybe getting a head cab from MojoTone..
Not really decided just yet..

Look close ( if not it is ) to a 105 watts Twin Reverb ( 1982 ? ) schematic ;

It looks like you have the 135 watt version with an ultralinear OT.
The power stage is different than the early Twins.
This one also does not use an inductor in the power supply. Instead, there is a large resistor to isolate the power stage.

I would get a head cab for it.

I found a schem for it here...
http://ampwares.com/schematics/twin_reverb_sf_135.pdf

So it looks the same..
4 x 7025 or 12ax7
2 x 12at7
4 x 6L6GC

A head cab will probably be it's final home..
That tranny looks like a beast..

I have a 1973 Silver Face 100 watter in the stock 2 x 12 cab now and it is pretty heavy with neo speakers in it..

This 135 watter ought to sound pretty beefy with my 2 x 12 cab with a Texas Heat and a Swamp Thang..

Well if anyone ever asks, yes a 1981 Fender Twin Reverb chassis will fit into a Fender 68 Custom Twin Reverb cab, but the chassis screws do not work..

Image

I gave it the go over and just a couple of quirks. Bad reverb pot, but still functions, the 68 reverb tank works good with it.. No scratchy pots, all the tubes are lit, vibrato is good, no clicking. Foot switch works good, no pops.. Think I have a keeper, might take it to the shop for a once over, but my 1973 Twin Reverb is first in line, since I have a good backup..

Tonewise, this thing is like glass compared to that 68 Custom, total different animal and in a very good way. Does not hiss like that 68 at all.. My Hardwire CM2, Fulltone Full drive and EH Small Clone sound a lot more well defined when clicked on.

Well defined bass and treble tones with the 68 Custom stock speakers, but way over powered for them. I will hook it up to my 2 x 12 cab with the Texas Heat and Swamp Thang this weekend, then decide on putting it in a head cab.. It is not much heavier than the 68 Custom, but it does have some weight to it.. I am thinking probably head cab, since I have someone that wants to buy the 68 chassis already..

Now I just have to find some chassis screws to get it tightened down..
