I have a 1964 Fender Bassman. I like to use it with a Marshall PowerBrake so I can turn it up to about "4" and not blow out everyone's ears. I've used the amp with a Power Soak and a Power Brake with success many times before. I had the amp biased because I put in new tubes. Now, whenever I attenuate the amp, it emits a high pitch noise. I know that this can be caused by too much gain the pre-amp tubes so I changed those the V1 pre-amp tube for a lower gain version and the noise did not go away. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

old Bassmans pick up rfi/emi easily. A flourescent or led bulb or a computer or smartphone could be a culprit.
Ground loops can occur when other AC powered equipment is connected to the amps signal chain.

This Bassman is a 1964 model 6G6-B. I would post some photos but I don't know how.

You need to upload your images to an online photo posting site. Like Photobucket or Imgur. Then, paste URL address of those images, by means of IMG option at top of thread box.

Where your specific address of the photo substitutes for "http://image_url"

I tried using a Tom Scholtz "Power Soak" instead of the Marshall Power Brake. The TS Power Soak has a 4 ohm setting which is what this Bassman wants to "see." It worked! So far, so good.

As far a the Bassman picking up frequencies, I would agree but this noise happens only when I turned the knob on the Marshall Power break down, to lower the output. When the amp is just connected without any dampening, it does not make any noise at all.
