Hi everybody. I was checking out a Champ Amp that was advertised as a 1968. It had the drip edge, "Champ - Amp" on the sliver face plate, output transformer dated 606-834, output transformer dated 606-824. So far so good. It did not have the stock speaker, but instead had a Jensen P8R dated 2200018. I then noticed there were no cleats or screws holding on the baffle. It appeared to be the dado and glued type of baffle. Did they make some dado/glued baffles in 68, as I thought 68 would have the "floating" type baffle with the cleats and screws. Or was this a cab from the 70's with 68 guts? Thanks so much!

Thanks Rock Icon! I checked out a 1980 Champ the other day that had the glued baffle and grillcloth was velcroed in.

Very odd. My 68 Champ (all original) has the screw in cleated baffle. I thought 1970-72 was the transition for Fender amps to the glue'd in baffle, so either it is not original or as is the way with Fender, never say never and they were already trying some of those new cab techniques in '68.

Thanks T2Stratman! I was of the mind somebody put the guts into a later cabinet, but who knows? The ways of Fender have been proven to be filled with lots of exceptions. Take care!
