Anyone try this place to recone old speakers? Tech used to work at Orange County Speakers.

Thanks!

Well, I setup a November date to have my L100 and L300 reconed and recapped (crossover). Will tell you how it works out. I have some old Jensen and JBL guitar amp speakers that need fixing, too. I hope he does a good job.

It is my understanding that SRP are the same folks who were doing the reconing when it was Orange County.
I bought a speaker from a guy, (on another forum), and told him I was thinking about using them. He told me they had done a great job on a couple of JBL's he had.
I have a K130 that I hope to send when I get a use for it.

Several years ago, I tried to replace the rotted speaker surrounds on some stereo speakers. It didn't work, so definitely don't try to do it yourself. I would think a repair shop, like you've found, could do it successfully.

I do it all the time the trick is to cut the dust cover off carefully not going deep enough to cut the cone, and put 3 or 4 shims in the gap between the voice coil and the motor ( Magnet ), push it down so the cone if even with the basket, glue in your surround and let it sit for 48 hours, take out the shims and glue the dust cover back on. I use Rubber Resin Cement from SoundSpeakerRepair.com

Took all my JBL speakers and crossovers to be checked and fixed by Speaker Repair Pro, in Garden Grove (OC), CA.

Very nice man. Young, too (I'd say in his 30s). He tested all my midrange and high frequency speakers on a signal generator and scope.

All were well-matched, except the midrange in the L-100s. Slight impedance mismatch between the two LE-5 speakers. One being little over 9-ohms.

He will recone all my 15-inch 136A. When he tested the 12-inch 123A woofers, he found one had a slight rub in mid travel. He will remove the cap and pull back on the voice coil to try and find the problem.

Also, will recharge the alnico magnets on the six woofers.

Spent a good hour talking speakers, fixing audio, and guitar amp gear. So far, so good...

Got my speakers back from Speaker Repair Pros (OC Speaker tech). Bao was a great guy to talk to. It's all about quality work and know-how --- which is becoming a lost art. We spent a good hour or two talking all kinds and makes of speakers.

I had my 15-inch JBL reconed. One 12-inch had some magnet shavings stuffed between the magnet and VC. He removed the cap and cleaned out the particles. All woofers were re-magnetized.

He tested the tweeters and midrange drivers. All tested well. One having slightly higher impedance (9-ohms) than all the others. ALL crossover capacitors were replaced.

Anyhow, the system sounds fantastic. As well as remember it, back in the 1980-90s. I highly recommend Speaker Repair Pros.
