Hello all,

I have a vintage Super Reverb that I had not used for several years, and when I used it the other day, I heard a small "pop" and a little puff of smoke came out of the right side of the amp.

My father bought it new when I was a toddler (around '68 I believe). It is all original.

I am in Southern Ohio and would like to find a reputable tech to look at it. Do you all know of anyone I can call?

Also, if I have to ship it somewhere, can I just send the electronics? How hard would it be to take them out.

The amp did still work after the "pop", but I was at a low volume, and shut it down soon after it happened.

Anyway, the amp is very sentimental for me so I hope I can get it fixed properly.

Thanks in advance for any help/advise anyone may have for me.

Have a GREAT day !

Safety first, don't get to excited about pulling the chassis (electronics as you described them) until you've been properly instructed on discharging the correct capacitors inside the amp. They store lotza DC voltage that your body wouldn't like to share.

Unplug amp , put standby switch to play position, wait 24 hours . This will discharge capacitors

Welcome to the Forum.

If you are willing to drive to Dayton (actually Centerville... which is a south suburb).... Centerville Music has techs that can work on the amp. Comes to the shop on Saturday... check out there other vintage gear.... and you'll have it back in a week. Drop the amp off..... go visit the US Air Force Museum. Admission to the museum is free.

I have yet to use this guy but, he comes highly recommended. Planning to have him service all my amps, this summer. Located just south of the Cincy airport.
