I picked this up recently:

My plan is to freshen things up(new tubes, and address any issues), put the amp in a head case, and make a killer bass head out of it

You know it is a very expensive amp to retubes with 6 X 6L6
Tubes bias check and adjust is a must too.

It wasn't that expensive - a matched sextet of JJ 6L6GCs from Eurotubes cost me $128... I have a tech that's going to replace a few burnt resistors, check the filter caps and everything else - and properly bias it for the new tubes... It could be worse - the KT88s I put in my Mesa Bass 400 were around $250, plus some shop labor... IME, high quality sound like these sort of amps provide costs a bit, but is well worth it - and if properly serviced, these amps last practically forever...

I agree, I have many vintage amps.

About cost, I mean, who need a 180 watts, 2 tons weight amp ?

Well, I'm coming at this from a bass player's viewpoint - in the new headcase, it should come in right around 50lbs, which is about the same as my Mesa 400 in it's SKB rackcase - and very manageable for this bassist... Regarding the wattage: I would agree with you *if* I were planning on using it as a guitar amp - but a 180 watt tube amp hits a nice sweet spot for bass...

That would be an awesome head unit. Hell, when no one is looking, plug your Strat into it. Set to "10" and scare the beejeebers on of your neighbors with, say, some "Pipeline" intro riffs.

Oh, I'll definitely play some guitar thru it, just because, lol... Although I'm primarily a bassist these days, I gigged for quite a few years as a guitarist, too - and just happen to have a Strat kicking around, too - hahaha!!! - although this amp doesn't have reverb or tremolo for the above sound...
