I have a 69 Twin Reverb (with original oxfords) I've heard you can remove either two inner or outer power tubes....as long as one speaker is disconnected.
Can someone chime in as to the safety of doing this with the amp?

It can be done. You may be surprised how little it effects the overall loudness. But, It may change tonal quality --- due to impedance changes. Link talks about which tubes to pull. You may want to recheck the idle bias, as load on the B+ changes when pulling tubes.

I agree that you may not notice much. Years ago I was playing with a country band, and the Bassman started dying about the second set, power tubes were flashing blue with every note!
I robbed 2 tubes from the guitar player's Twin, and put them in the Bassman. When we finished the night, I pulled the tubes, and started to reinstall them, but the guitar player said he liked "the sound" better. He traded the amp a good 5 years later, with only the 2 outer tubes installed.

yeah, a Twin is LOUD. But, it's not like a Super Reverb is a shrinking violet (with only 2 6L6GC and tube rectification). Heck, a DR with good tubes and new filters caps is LOUD at "10." Esp with an efficient 12-inch onboard.

Well, loud enough for the rest of the household to go running for shelter!
