Wish me luck I am taking my 1958 fender princeton tweed to get it checked out. I got the amp at an estate auction, brought it home called Fender HQ who helped me ID and gave me the place to get it looked at. Only funny thing that i see is that someone covered the tweed with a black material. The amp had been " hiding" out in an attic for 40 years or so.

Tweed cloth "surgery" is always hard to stomach. Is it still intact under the vinyl? If so there's hope. But to me it just looks like good old tight wood grain from mature pine in the 50's. Very nice otherwise.

Easy enough to restore using new linen. Those original electrolytics need to be replaced as well.

"Electrolytics"......as in electrolytic capacitors. Those large orange tubular thingies. They contain PCB oils which dry out and/or leak with age, always with catastrophic results. Replace with F&T's for the utmost reliability and longevity.

I have seen ppl cut the old Astron Minimite capacitor paper covers and glue them onto new Sprague Atoms or F&T caps. To preserve the "OEM look." Your tech prolly won't do this, but maybe have him bag the old caps --- just on case, later on you decide to do this (once the tweed is restored).

Original Mallory and Aluminite hulls can be convincingly recycled but that's really more the purview of a restoration specialist rather than that of an electronic technician.

Looks like its missing an O/T, unless its hidden somewhere. Otherwise, depending on your intentions it looks like a fine tweedless 1958 Princeton. The chassis looks remarkably original, don't remove the tape from the inside of the chassis(should have the builders name on it). Nice find congrats. A good tech should be able to sort the electronics out easily enough.

I think OT faces towards front, to speaker side, in these tweeds. Hidden, unless chassis is removed.
