I played the amp for an hour or so today and it sounds pretty good. The amp is quiet with nothing plugged in and the volume cranked, just a very slight hiss at that level. However, the volume (1MA) seems lower on both channels than it should be with a guitar plugged in, 8 or 9 on the dial to get it to wake up. I know the tweed style 1 thru 12 is a little different in appearance but it still seems less than it should be. Stays pretty clean up to 10. It's biased a little cold (I think), 436 plate voltage and 21mA's which is about 9 watts. I'd like to get closer to 12 watts, if I crank it up to 28mA's it's good, about 12 watts, 429 pv, no red plating. I'll leave it there and try it. Maybe I'll try a 5R4 to get the pv down a touch later. The volume issue bugs me.

Are you sure you use 1 meg volume pot , not 100k ?

I understand volume is ( very ) low until volume is at 8 right ?

All 12XX7s are good ?
Phase inverter resistors are the good ones ?
Output Transformer is the good one and is working properly ?

Thanks for the words of compliment sfceric64.

Arjay and stratele52,

Just to be sure I just checked, both 1 meg audio. The only thing different with the pots is a mid control (10k audio) wired like a Twin Reverb on the Vibrato channel. Tubes are all good. The PI resistors are 100k and 82k Dale brand. The OT is Classic Tone's "beefier upgrade" with multi taps for 4, 8 and 16 ohms. I used the green which is for an 8 ohm load. I don't think it could be a grounding issue but I've wanted to add a ground to the inputs and pots anyway.

It is a patch on a problem, a illusion that the amp is more power full... the first time only

Adding a mid pot is ok. Any other mods ?
Wich deluxe reverb did you build , from witch shematic or layout ?

Check you voltages on 12XX7 and report.

What is heater voltage on each tube ? low voltage= low power

The schematic - AB763, as far as mods, the mid pot, 82k instead of 100k on one side of the PI and 100uf/100v on the bias board.

I'll post the voltages after supper.

I compliment you!
I cussed the 5E3 I built last year for the lack of room in the chassis, but your DR build is really tight!

Here's the voltages, seem a little high. The heater voltage reads 6.38 volts AC across pins 4/5 - 9 on the nine pinners.

Looks like you have no current running through the cathode of the 12AT7 phase inverter. :(
