Hello, I have a 1964 bassman 2x12 cab with original oxford speakers. I'm looking to find out what the wattage is for these speakers. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If original to the cab, the Oxfords are likely 12M6's, good for around 30 watts each. Somewhat later, Fender chose to upgrade the Bassman to 12T6's, a 40-watt driver.

...and by '66 they had really upgraded to Jensen C12Ns!

Actually, by 1966 either speaker could be found in Bassmans and Twin Reverbs. Both Oxford and Jensen struggled to meet demand as CBS/FMI ramped up production to recoup their purchase cost of the Fender Electric Instrument Company in the previous year. Utah and CTS were brought on board in 1966 as well, and for the same reason.

Guess I got lucky then with my '66 getting the C12N's!

Like I said, the luck of the draw. Just as with a Super Reverb......some got ceramic Oxfords, others got CTS alnicos. A fortunate few got Jensens.

Thanks for all the info. I have oxford 12T6, so I'm assuming they're rated at 40 watts each. I want to use the (what I thought was a 64 fender bassman cab...obviously older, maybe 67/68) for guitar. I'm running a peavey windsor 100watt head so I should probably swap out the oxfords for something with more wattage. Anyone know what these oxfords are worth and where I could sell them to fund some new speakers?

Thanks again, learning a lot here.

You might take your chances on Ebay, Reverb.com, or Craig's List.
