JK, Stoopy.

That your reverb tank is once again reverbing correctly is thanks enough for me.

Rawk on!

Stoopy and others,

I found a few Sylvania 6K6GT tubes, while cleaning out my stash (to get ready for that Gibson Explorer amp). One 1940s era mil spec. Two chrome domes. Two tall glass bottles.

And here I was about to blow some b-day money at the eBay link you'd provided a few posts back. Will send message... :)

As a follow up - I do have to say that my unit is just sounding

so.

Dang.

SWEEEET

right now!!

Just great on the "Classic" surf setting of Dwell/Tone/Mix of 6/6/3. Turn the knobs one more notch, and it summons cubic hectares of fresh Pacific saltwater right into the room. My wife has been noticing a strange buildup of beach sand in the carpet in front of my setup and the other night when I was done playing I looked down at the amp and I kid thee not, there was a couple of pieces of kelp stuck right there on the speaker grill. Kind of afraid to turn things up any farther 'cuz it might summon Poseidon himself and he'd get pretty jealous seeing this mighty unit in the hands of mere mortals... heck that probably 'splains the disappearance of my old Super Reverb...

Speaking of which, considering getting a (new) Princeton '65 RI for my bday. Not vintage but at least a bit more affordable and should be a good match for this still. Wife took me to the local guitar store last night and said to pick out whatever I wanted, but they stopped carrying Fender (sad times, these). Ended up walking out with a couple sets of strings as consolation but likely will head down to GC sometime this weekend and see what's what.

But anyway, yeah we are in Tube City with this thing. Will send a PM!

Great news! Glad the Unit is performing like it should There really is no substitute for a stand alone, tube driven Reverb Unit. Shades of Link Wray!

Sent you a PM. Going through my tube stash, after work tomorrow.

Screw that!

Get yourself a small-box blackface Bandmaster, preferably with a pair of Jensen C12N's.

(here's The Sacred Reverberational Unit behind me in the below pic, doing it's thing at the fabulous Lloyd's Pool Room in Hesperia CA on top of my old silverface Pro Reverb, taken 4 gf's, 1 wedding, two mortgages, 3 kids, 2 careers and about 100lbs ago)

I love that CBS-era Jazzmaster with the bound-and-blocked tuxedo neck!

Thanks man - so do I, it was love at first sight and she is a real sweetheart to play and sounds amazing. My next project is a little love for the switches and electronics which need cleaning & such, and find a decent replacement pickguard since the original cracked near the output jack & has a chunk missing.

I think I posted a link to a pickguard source in your other thread about same in the "Other Fender Guitars" section.

Yes you did sir and I thank you for that. I thought they were all about just custom pickguards then finally clicked on the Fender logo under "models". Nice stuff but I don't see the white w/black stripe laminate edging around the border. I will give 'em a call to confirm if they do that.

I was trying to keep the price cheap and got a $19 version off eBay, but then caught myself, this isn't a guitar to be a total cheapskate with and cut corners on.

+1

That guitar deserves a 115% effort at restoration. Fender tortoise shells are 4-ply (tort, white, black, white) and vintage pickguards are quite light spectrally compared to contemporary parts.

Stoopy, that guitar is awesomely mod! Love the Ref uniforms, too! :D

I kinda remember someone else, either here or on another board, restoring a Jazzmaster or Jaguar guitar. I believe those slide switches are being produced again.

Anyhow, check your personal email for tube updates! Exciting, isn't it?
