I just acquired a beautiful February 1964 Super Reverb. The cover is a brown Victoria Luggage piece that looks like it has been with this amp a very long time, possibly since new.
Were these brown covers used as late as my amp? Was there a transition period where both brown and black covers were used during the same period?
Thnx for any help and education.
Mark

1964 was the transition year when both tan duck canvas and black vinyl covers were available. After that, Victoria Luggage only made the black ones.

Where in the world did you find those two amps! Like only the two Holy Grails of blackface-dom.

And a 1969 L88 Vette? This is too much for me too handle. I'm going to take a cold shower, now.

I found the SR in Laguna Niguel, CA and the VR in Conoga Park, CA
Last Monday I flew to LA, rented a minivan and drove them back to KY. Pulled in my driveway today after a 2,200 mile road trip.
I couldn't stand the thought of shipping them. They are both in mint condition.

Awesome, awesome car. Where do you find 100 octane to run in it? Or did you replace the valve seats with Stellite ones?

May I ask what guitars to plug into those great amps? I have drip edge era VLR and SR. Good BF ones are just too hard to find. Did you get that VLR at Norm's Guitars, in the San Fernando valley? He has a bunch of really nice vintage stuff. :)

VP purple has the octane and lead to keep an L88 happy.

I bought the two amps, pictured above, from private individuals. I have a Custom Shop 52 Tele, 58 Strat and 59 True Historic Les Paul. I've got a Martin that I play thru a Fender SFX. My daughter plays a sweet little Japanese re-issue 68 Strat. We have another 68 re-issue in the man cave that is set-up as a 'tip of the hat' to Jimi.

We have a very early blackline drip edge 68 Pro Reverb that has 67 guts. It's in mint condition with its original cover. They are great amps.

That's one sweet Stingray, Mark! Fathom Green may not have been the most popular color but I always thought that the '69 wore it well.

Years ago we had a '73 L82 coupe in Can Am White but traded it in when the SUV craze began. Now I make do with this all-steel grocery-getter......

It's not as glamorous as a Corvette but I can actually fit a couple of Strats and my '64 Vibroverb in the trunk.

That is one SWEET blonde Stratocaster! How much does that VR Purple cost per gallon? Thinking about restoring an early BMW 2002Ti with 10:1 compression. Need 100+ octane.

Love that Bob's Big Boy! :)

The gas is about ten bucks/gallon. It never goes bad so, no need to add Stabil. It has plenty of lead for lubrication. The second design L88 heads (open chambered) reduced the comp ratio from 12.5/1 to 12.0/1 so there is still a need for lots of octane.

1969 Chevelle SS 396 is my favorite car of all time...period. I've had some nice ones. Last one was 12,000 original miles LeMans Blue/Parchment buckets with 8 track stereo:-)) That's one I wish I had back. It had its original 375 HP motor with M21 and 4.10 rear.

Wow, I am gone for a couple weeks busy with work and a brother from another mother shows up! Mark seems we have a bit in common!
Image '64 Princeton, '65 Super Reverb, and '66 Bassman.

Although I have an affinity for the newer Stingrays!

Mark you sure have some fine amps and one beautiful and rare Corvette! Out of 116 L88's in '69 how many were Fathom Green...??? Got to be a 1 of 1!

8) 8) 8)

Since GM didn't keep records that detailed, I don't know about how many green L88s but, GM records do indicate Fathom Green was the most popular color (for Corvette) in the 1969 model year.
I would wager that, if the numbers were known, less than 10 L88s (in model year 1969) came from the factory with side exhausts.
I dig green but, as Kermit sez, it's hard being green.

PS-Beautiful amps and the Corvette is stunning

Thanks! Yeah the Black Book is skimpy on info for '69's and with the strike production was less than optimal. 983 in Fathom Green is average as almost every color reached 900 that year. Your score of 98.5 to 99 is impressive for sure! Congrats on some very prestigious wins at BG and NCRS! A friend at work has a 65 going through restoration at Thorpes right now, we live very near there. Again great car, and my Mrs. loves the Green!
