What's the best cleaner to use and best method to clean a vintage grill cloth without removing it. Something that wont harm the colors and preferably not have to be rinsed off would be ideal. Looks like mostly smoke, nicotine stained.

WHY??? Keep the the grill cloth just the way it is, now a days people fork out some dough to have their grill cloth "stained" like it's been in a smoky bar for years IMO I would keep it just the way it is plus it will hold it's value if you decide to sell your rig in the future keep it vintage there's nothing like vintage mojo.

Cheers

Why not keep it smoke stained, only reason I can think of I'm not like other people. I like things new looking, I keep everything I own in new condition. Besides I have this MINT 67 Silverface Deluxe Reverb that I'm playing through this cab and it sounds killer only side by side the cab looks shabby. It's actually in excellent shape other than the dirty looking cloth. I think it would look much better if they both matched in appearance. I thought if it could be cleaned up easily why not make it look better. I don't buy into this aged look from the factory. Why would someone pay $1500.00-$3000.00 more for a guitar that has been aged from the factory, it looks like crap for something that is suppose to be new. It will naturally age in time. Who are these people trying to fool. It's all because of the want for vintage instruments and they are way out of reach for the average musician price wise. So buy a new one that someone beat up after it was made so everyone will think your cool with the old guitar or amp. These companies are laughing at them. It's much harder to produce a product with care to prevent damage while assembling. No thanks

hey,
use greased lightening....a spray cleanser, diluted with water and a wash rag. just be gentle and tons of crap will come off that grille cloth. i own many vintage amps that are typically delivered to me with 40 years of filth on them. i spray the tolex, contact paper, whatever, direct with this stuff then wipe it off, then go over with plain water and the result is gorgeous. i use the water/cleaner solution and a rag to gently clean the grille cloths which also come out terrific, with no damage or discoloration. keep in mind some stains just won't come out.

I don't do much to keep mine clean but I've heard of others that have had good results with MeanGreen and a combination of a scouring pad, bristle brush, toothbrush, clean and wet rags.
