Hi:

I'm new to this forum and to guitar amps in general but trying to learn. I have a little electronics experience but not too much with guitar amps.

I'm working on a Fender super twin with weak output power and some distortion. I suspect the output transformer may be bad. This guy uses 6 6L6's and has a 4 ohm output impedance. Amp is labeled as having 185 Watt RMS output.

Does anyone know what the primary impedance is supposed to be for these output transformers?

Trying to test the output transformer by measuring the turns ratio and calculating the impedance.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

The primary resistance will not be equal as one primary is laid over the other. I would expect 45-80 ohms each
But OTs do not go quietly into the night. They blow fuses and smell like burned varnish.
Look on the power tube sockets for burned 470 ohm 1 watt resistors. These are for the screen grids and commonly fail when tubes go bad. They can cause the described symptom.
Also check the surface of the power tube sockets for burnt spots between pins 2 & 3. These often short the tubes out
