My Marshall JTM45 RI was excellent, it was just to much amp for what I needed.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo

oh man. That must be the classiest jtm ive ever seen, their a personal fave of mine. do you find much difference in sound depending on the wood you use for a cab. Ive a old 4x12 here with 2 old jensens and 2 carlsbro speakers in it that sounds great. Its falling apart though, i need to rebuild it.

My favorite is my 63 Vibroverb RI. Brownface, tan tolex and vintage tone. It looks as good as it sounds. Sure got lucky finding it on craigslist.

I'd have to say my favorite over-all would be either my '66 Ampeg B-15, or my '64 Bassman, but I just picked up a Guild "Reverb Converter" 1X10 combo with switchable reverb and Vibrato that has really been getting most of my attention lately. This one's my fourth amp with either a Vibe or Trem circuit. (the others are: a Music Man '65 Reverb head, Hohner G-20 1X12 combo, Vox 2X12 combo [my only full solid state amp])

Until a year a half ago, my favorite amp would have been my '64 AC30TB (speakers date code to Dec. 1963).

Image

Now my all-time fav is a JMJ-30 thru a pair of '63 alnico blues.

Image

Not even my "blackfaced" '70 Pro Reverb can compare. The JMJ amp has so much dimension that I find reverb or any effect superfluous.

It would be my old silverfaced princeton i had when i was 15. I only had it a year before it was stolen!! A kid i knew said he had an amp he would sell me for $20 bucks,so i went over and checked it out. I was into metal at the time, so this dusty old "piece of crap" he pulled out of the basement (my thinking at the time) wasn't exactly appealing to me. I ended giving him $10 bucks for it back in '86. Got it home and realized there wasn't even distortion on it.(more youthful ignorance lol) Then i played thru it, pluged a couple pedals into it,and was hooked. I would give anything to get that thing back today!!!

As a harp player, I've really enjoyed each of the few amps I've owned over the past 40 years. While I regret ever selling my Fender Twin Tweed (SN 257); loved the tone on my 14-watt, 1952 Gibson GA40 "Les Paul" model amp; and still really like my 1948 Masco PA (27 watts and the 2 original 12" Jensen speakers) - good power, great tone.

But, my favorite amp for playing blues harp has got to be my new Sonny Jr. "Cruncher". I never thought I'd hear a non-vintage amp with the killer tone of the "Cruncher". And it sounds just as good for playing Hound Dog Taylor style slide guitar as it does for harp. The tone is Brand-New-1952!!

I have to change my answer yet again. For the last six months or so I've been playing my Rivera Knucklehead almost exclusively. I use the Rivera for a clean sound and for a well defined distortion, while I use a Mesa F-50 to sort of fill out my overall sound with a nice saturated "Mesa" Distortion. Although, I just "won" a Twin Reverb II on ebay so I'll have to check that one out too. It was designed by Paul Rivera when he was with Fender. (as far as I know) That's me and my setup on the right....

The two that I'm using right now. Original 65 Vibrolux Reverb and a 1979 Mesa Mark II 60/100 Head with Mesa 2x12 Vintage 30 Horizontal rectifier cab. Both amps take pedals extremely well.

I like the sound of that. I'v always tried to achieve a similar sound to hound dog taylor - A 'rough around the edges' juke joint type sound.

i own a mesa nomad 100 with a 2x12 cab and a '74 twin reverb. the twin takes the cake for beutiful guitar tone. that thing and my tube screamer are like drinks on your 21st birthday. and it smells good. but for distorted sounds can't beat my nomad.
