What is your favorite amp you ever owned--

I am torn between the 1963 ReIssue Fender Vibroverb (brownface) that I currently own and play through (almost exclusively) and the old 1972 Fender Bassman Ten (silverface, master volume) that was lost in the Second Great Mortgage Payment Guitar and Amplifier Collection Massacre of 2001.

The Vibroverb wins in the sense of having great, great tone, excellent (almost perfect) vibrato/tremolo (whatever), a good reverb tank, portability, and gorgeous brownface/brown tolex/wheat grille cosmetics. It sounds equally great for both guitar and harmonica (both of which I play). It sounds great no matter what guitar I plug into it (my own G&L F100, Stratocaster, Telecaster, G&L Nighthawk and Danelectro DC3, as well as other borrowed axes such as an Epiphone semi-hollow humbucking machine, an old Les Paul Junior and others). It responds well to pedals.

Having said that, I miss that old 72 Bassman Ten. It had an oomph and gutsy tone that I've not heard from many other amps. The only criticism I ever had toward it was the weight (Lord, that thing was heavy) and the lack of a tremolo/vibrato and reverb circuit. It had a cool and funky patina (a real relic--not a relic'd new piece of equipment). It sounded better for guitar than it did for harp, but the harp sounds were still pretty dang good.

So what was your favorite amp you ever owned?

Good Vibes To Y'all... 8)

Thats a tough question...
is it/was it one of my Mesa Boogies?
one of my Fenders? ...Something else? hmm.
 maybe an amp i used in the studio or a friends amp?
...I'm not sure I can answer that question & look u straight in the eye... LOL

One time a friend asked, "what is your favorite TooL song?"
That's when I realized the answer kept changing depending on what song of theirs I was listening too... lol

I really love my Fender Blues Jr... CRANK IT, mic it up, & record...
Great little amp...

Wanna hear me(guitar) & my older brother(vocals)?
Our band is called Exploration X

My 1969 drip rail silverface Pro Reverb, bias adjust converted to blackface specs, all chocolate drop caps replaced with orange drops, Sprague atom filter caps, vintage mid 60's RCA blackplate 6V6's, vintage Mullard GZ32 rectifier, one stock Fender/Oxford speaker and one vintage mid 50's Jensen P12Q. I'm not even going to try to tell you how great it sounds.

My 1966 Pro Reverb comes in first, 2nd place goes to my 65 re-issue Super reverb, and third place is my 1964 Bassman head through a 66 bandmaster cab...

But, I have a love affair with some sweet old music man gear that I really love too... That 74-82 music man stuff is bullet proof!

An all original Super Reverb. This was essentially a Fender Super amplifier with built-in reverb and vibrato. The original Super Reverb amplifiers were all tube design and featured spring reverb.

There were two different designs, distinguishable by the color of the "face" or front control panel. Super Reverbs from 1963 through 1968 had "black face" panels.

From 1969 until its discontinuation in 1982, the Super Reverb had "silverface" cosmetics and circuitry. Fender introduced a reissue '65 Super Reverb in 2001.

My Marshall JTM45 RI was excellent, it was just to much amp for what I needed.

I began back in the mid 70's with a Peavy Classic 212 which I gigged hard throughout my teenage years. I then got a Marshall stack that I picked up from a guy's wife (they were getting divorced and she wanted to make him really mad) I thought THAT was my favorite. It had a real AC/DC feel and sound. You know, Rock and Roll Aint Noise Polluction? I ended up having to leave this in SLC and by the next year, I was married and in the military. About three years ago, I began playing again and bought another Marshall Triple Lead Head and cab. Being more into blues now, I also this year bought a '64 Vibroverb w/ the Diaz mods and WOW! I have heard people rave about these amps and other people say terrible things about them. I use a Turbo Tubescreamer to "warm" it up a bit and the tone is AWESOME! This is one L O U D amp too. I have used the Marshall 1960A as an extension cab and my window rattle when I barely have the amp between 1-2! So my favorite amp is definately my Vibroverb. I have played through Mesa's and other Fenders too, and they are really great sounding, but I would buy another Vibroverb IF I would not get divorced!

Chet seems like all your amps have been rebuilt with fine woods. They are all so beatiful, and I assume they have been modified with Scumback speakers and retubed. What a nice collection you have! I'm sure Redmax61 is not far behind if at all! The Feathers family is amazing!! 8)

That amp did get Scumback speakers and NOS tubes. That amp has been gone for 2 years now. I got a Gibson LP Standard and $500 in cash for it. Part of the cash went to buying my 1986 Fender MIJ '72 RI Strat.

I'm not sure what my brother has, I guess I'll find out next month.
