Just came across this listing and wondering whether it's
a. For real
b. If so, worth its asking price

If that amp guaranteed I'd play like Frampton, might be worth it. Make the money back in a few gigs.

Check out this item, also being sold by Commerce Pro.

Arjay,
That's what I thought, a whole lotta dinero!!  I also find it hard to believe that Frampton never had a cap job done on that amp, lol.

Beemer,
Only $999.99 for a dunlop wah? I think it's crystal clear that it's a bargain!

If you closely examine the photo of the amp's filter array, you'll notice that the OEM Astron hulls are in fact concealing a quartet of modern Sprague Atom's tucked neatly within. I've seen that trick many times before.

Arjay, I've seen this before, too. I wonder about restricting the heat dissipation with the extra layer of paper. I don't do this trick on recap jobs.

Did you see the prices on other vintage tweed era Fender amps? Darn things must be on a price upswing, again.

Yeah the prices for tweeds and blackfaces continue their northward creep. OTOH, those for brownfaces and silverfaces remain relatively stable.

Get 'em while they're still affordable.

Ouch that's a lot of Do Re Me. A lot of watchers no bidders
a. I guess it is possible, I have a Hammond B3 from his big tour, personally I doubt it will help with the value of the thing. I imagine his personal amp is different, if it can be proved
b. If one has the money for a Frampton memorabilia piece and wants it bad enough I guess then it is worth the asking price. As for me it is not worth US $18,000.00 to sit in a show case and not use it

Did not see any mention of any letters of authenticity either. I would need a whole lot more info and proof!

Arjay, good catch on those caps. I'd heard of such a thing but never really seen them. I wonder if beepers statement regarding the heating has any merit. I would think it might have some effect on longevity more than anything else.
Oh, also I've been told that brow face and silverface amps just plain sukh. Not worth their weight in coal.

T2, I think I'd need Mr. Frampton himself to authenticate that amp before that type of money was dished out. I just don't have any faith in certificates of authenticity anymore.

Spragues rated for 85ºC would probably be safe to use in such an environment though I would think their service life might be somewhat curtailed.

Personally, I've never believed in such monkeyshines -- I've got a huge sack of used (and abused) Mallory's, Astron's and Aluminite's that I should probably throw up on Ebay. Could be worth a few $$$ to those "purists".

Peter Frampton lives in Indian Hills, which is just outside of Cincinnati. His vintage guitar dealer is/was Gary's Guitars in Cincinnait. I've seen storys where Peter and Gary are together.... and Peter talked about getting vintage gear from Gary. I think its highly unlikely that Mr. Frampton would have someone from Tennessee who is also selling "Fresh White Oak Acorns for Deer Squirrels or Crafts" sell his vintage Fender Twin.

Peter has also come up to Dayton to buy gear from a well-know vintage dealer - who sold him a particular Ampeg amp to replace one that was lost in that plane crash (if memory serves me correctly). The Dayton dealer works out of the guitar shop I frequent here in Centerville.

6:42 - Peter is at Gary's
