I have a '67 single showman SF/BL/DE combo amp with a single 15" JBL-D140 (bass) speaker in original tone ring cabinet (also DE). Everything is intact except for the insulation baffling which was removed before I ever owned it. Is this critical to the sound or could someone have removed it due to the fact that there's a bass speaker in it and they wanted more low end response...?

How would the sound be improved my replacing it?

The "insulation" is there to provide acoustic damping by limiting the cone excursion of the speaker as it produces low-frequency signals, especially at high volume levels. This helps to create articulate, well-defined bass notes.

Correct. Insulation helps reduce inherent speaker and cabinet resonant frequencies. Standing waves.

BTW... did others have issue logging onto the Fender Forum the last few days? Thanks! :)

Also insulation make cabinet seem bigger that it is.

Marshall and many other brand don't use insulation, but Fender ( Leo) built a better products.

No problem with forum.

On my '66 Bassman Cab I pulled the Fiberglass damping sheets out, and it seemed to open up and accentuate the highs better, so I left them out. Could be it has less defined bass, so I "Hear" more highs?

And yes, last couple days could not login...seems to be fixed now? Wonder if the forum pushed a software update with some holes in it?

More interior volume within the cabinet would raise the resonant frequency of the enclosure so enhanced highs (and likely the mids as well) is not surprising. And such an alteration might be preferable for use with a guitar.

No reportable log-in issues with me.
