Ok, I get it. Yeah, your Deluxe has only a single tone pot attached to the tone stack. This link may help a lot more:

http://chasingtone.com/yourguitaramp/gu ... -controls/

The 6SC7GTY are supposedly the best. Round plate TS are sought after tubes. I haven't tested them, yet. Anyhow, the TS round plate 6SN7GT is considered THE 6SN7, FWIW. :D

Anyhow, drop me a line --- if you become interested.

For me this is a great site, it had given me a lot of understanding, found it a while back and since I did I have tossed the idea around to build a guitar amp. I would start with a 5F1 amp and if turns out to be fun I will than try the 5E3
mud

Very nice! He has great sites on auto repair, too.

I fortunately stumbled upon the site/info only a week ago, it is chock full of great info.
Have you looked at the "cake pan 5e3" you tube video, sounds fantastic. I think its in the 5e3 mods area, two of the best sounding he's heard.

The man in red brought me a complete new set of glass(sorry no pics, dead bat in the camera) for Christmas and I just hooked myself up for my birthday. Ordered an AmpRx brown box and a radial a/b/y from Sweetwater. Looking forward to vintage voltage tones mixed w/ the DRRI.

Why didn't you ask Santa to leave you a selection of batteries as stocking stuffers? Everybody can use more BA30's, BA90's, triple-A's, etc.

Arjay, I only think of legs & stockings, still young at heart. Battery re-charged.
The new tube array:

The A/B/Y and Brown box will be along next week.

I'm gonna wait until I get the brown box and make the swaps in the PSU to 16uf before re-biasing and installing the new tubes. I think it is stable w/ 120-121 volts, so I just wanna make sure it can handle a range of voltages w/ the 330ohm bias resistor. I may have to adjust the dropping resistors and cathode resistor, but will wait and see how it sounds.
Also noticed from your pic of 6sc7gty the date 10/57on the box, mine are dated 12/57 on the box and 803 on the tube. Any idea what year they quit making these? I was thinking maybe early 60's.
Had I known about the brown box earlier, I would have started there. But along the way I have certainly gotten a bit of experience and know this amp much better than before. As always appreciate the advice from everyone.

What was the "brown box," again? Thanks! :)
I believe Tungsol stop making the brown micanol based mil spec 6SC7GTY, in the late 1950s. Not sure about other US manufacturers. Brimar may have made licensed models of this tube, in Great Britain, to a later date. I need to check on that.

The 6V6GT are cathode-biased, Class "A," push-pull setup. As long as the plate voltages are within nominal value (+/- 20%) and the cathode tied resistor is within spec (+/- 10%), AND the grid-to-ground resistors are within spec (+/-10%)... the tubes will self-level to a bias point. Somewhere around 70-80% of the 12 watt per tube max. At idle, no inputs, volume at zero. IOW, there's is no need to adjust any bias, as you would in a fixed-bias setup.

Easier than typing:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BrownBox

Copy that on the cathode bias resistor, just wanna make sure it will cover a good range of voltages@ the plates. So far the 330ohm has been fine right to the wall w/ the higher plate voltage and dropping resistor changes.

Thanks! Hadn't heard of this unit before. Be interested to see how it works. Whether it changes the dynamics of the amp.
