Very Nice... !!

Picked up a '65 VC a while ago in similarly excellent shape.

Image

Upgraded it to a 4Ω Jensen and the Tone is very much improved.

Image

But I never use it...

I play the amp all the time, but through a 4Ω (voicecoil modified) vintage Jensen 12" and WOW !!... possibly the sweetest combo I've ever heard.

If you have the chance, don't be afraid to look at these alternatives, the rewards are there !

Cheers!

Does the VC chassis fit into cab DIY cab? Must be awesome! What kinda harmonics and overtones do you get in that DIY cab versus the stock one? Bet, better bass OD.

The Champ/Vibro Champ chassis is a drop-in fit to Fender's Musicmaster bass amp enclosure. All that's needed is a suitable 12-inch, 4-ohm speaker to complete the conversion.

That Vibro Champ is very sweet! I have a 1981 or 1982 Vibro Champ that someone put into a custom cabinet for a 10" speaker. I found an old 4 ohm Jensen C10 one night on Ebay for dirt cheap, and that was the final piece for that amp. It stays cleaner than the 65 up the volume dial but it has a wicked tone of its one. Both great practice amps. I finally had a chance to hook up a 12" to the Champ, albeit an 8 ohm Eminence Red Fang, but I can hear possibilities if I need more volume.

This guy normally rebuilds and/or recones speakers but says this one is all original. I think his estimate of 50 watts is a little high though? This could be sweet with my Bassman head or either of the Champs.

Oxford's 12T6 is rated for 40 to 50 watts and was commonly OEM in Fender's Twin Reverb and Bassman enclosure. The speaker featured in that Ebay listing is not an original Fender part since it lacks the blue/silver "donut" decal normally affixed to the magnet structure with the proper "105379" Fender P/N.

I was rummaging through my local music emporium and found a Music Master Bass amp and thought it would make a good little quick conversion for my 68 Champ but was running late, so I passed and went back the following week and sure enough it was gone. I played one a friend had done and it was a fine sounding amp!

By the way, NICE vibro champ!

Right now I'm running the 12" as an extension cab w/ a 6' RCA cord... the VC chassis will fit it, but I want to keep the '65 as pristine as I can so I'm either going to make a VC Clone or put the chassis of my '68 Drip-edge VC into it.

Cheers!

Though, I'd prolly keep that drip-edge VC as stock as possible. Guess look for another Champ or VC? Maybe, just the chassis or one with a damaged cab?

:)

An orphaned chassis might be the best option, preferably a late silverface which would have little historic value or significance. That's the tack I took when building my silverface Spankmaster Reverb.

+1K...and my 69 Super Reverb Blonde refurb! Even a late model Silverface champ will work and all the way up to the Rivera model champs.

Well, I know the chassis dimensions and most of the circuitry remained the same through the silverface era (early 1980s).

Not sure about the dimensions of the Super Champs of the 80s. I know they lost the tube rectification. Were push-pull, dual 6V6GTA. And had that oddball triple-triode 6C10 tube.

I think the Super Champ chassis is a skosh wider, almost like a Princeton Reverb.

I was more referring to the 4 knob champ with the push pull boost, agree with you and Arjay the Super Champ is just a "Skosh" wider.
