What are the tonal differences between the Blonde and a later AB763 Bandmaster?

The Bandmaster that the OP is referring to is a 6G7 brownface. It's an 8-tube chassis (as opposed to the six bottles of an AB763), with three of the tubes dedicated to a harmonic tremolo circuit. The tone controls are configured a bit differently from a blackface and the amp features a variable NFB loop (ie: a presence control) in lieu of the later design's bright switches. Dimensionally, the chassis is about three inches wider than a blackface.

Thanks Arjay. Trying to understand the difference a Bandmaster might make (besides the tremolo) between:
6G7 brown face
6G7A Blonde
763AB Blackface

figured you or others on this thread must have compared them at some point... I'm guessing the blonde is pretty close to the Blackface, but the Presence control and tremolo sound interesting. The Brownface I'm wondering if that's a whole other animal.

thanks for any opinions.

All of the 6G7 iterations will be the 8-tube chassis I mentioned. The sub-types merely reflect minor component-value variations in the NFB loop and phase-inverter stages. Thus, they are sonically similar in most respects and all feature the harmonic tremolo -- Leo's best sounding design as regards to a tremolo circuit.

I agree. Best range of tones with these circuits, as opposed to the amps that use opto-coupler "bugs." And you get none of that annoying "ticking."

IMHO, one of the reasons the Princeton, PR, and VC were such great amps. BF and SF era had tube driven oscillator circuitry.

+1

Both the harmonic trem and the bias-wiggle type are quiet as a church mouse.
