Okay, I realize this is a large, and very subjective sort of question, but do any of you guys have any specific recommendations for books explaining basic guitar/bass tube amp circuitry(ies), the points, purposes, and differences among the types, and how and why the end results are achieved?
Like I said, I know this is a huge question, but what would be a good starting point for someone interested in sound amplification, but who had never received any sort of education in even the most elementary points of electronics?
Any suggestions are much appreciated, thanks in advance.

IMO the best book for a beginner and more experimented is ;

The Tube Amp Book, by Aspen Pitman.

Good recommendations, thanks. So now I've read these amp books. They all add more color or pieces to the puzzle.
The Soul of Tone
Fender Amps the first 50 years
The Guitar Amp Handbook
The Tube Amp Book

I suppose the next will likely be Amped then Tube Guitar Amp Essentials.

I really got to treat the books like school work, ala tabs, notes and highlighters for quick reference.

I really like this one for it's simplicity , great photos and illustrations

http://www.amazon.com/How-Hot-Rod-Your- ... 0760338477

It gives you more than mods really and some good explanations of the circuits involved
