i recently puchaced a silverface (1975 i think) super reverb from my band director. i had the to 6l6s replaced and it seems to be working pretty well. my problem is te amp starts breaking up at 5 volume. ive had some people tell me this is normal and others tell me it should stay clean at much higher volumes. what do you guys think?

i was told this may mean the preamp tubes are getting old. sorry this is my first tube amp.

A Super Reverb, especially a mid 70's silverface one, should stay clean higher than five. Try replacing the preamp tubes as they could be the source of the problem and they probably need replacing anyway. Let us know if that solves the problem.

You'll hear two schools of thought on cables (reverb, speaker, patch, etc.). Some people think that every cable sounds exactly the same as every other. Others think they impart a subtle change in the sound of an amp. You can try switching out cables and see if you hear any difference. I ended up sticking with the cables that came in my 1969 Pro Reverb. They sounded as good as any.

thankyou.

i switched the old cable out for a verynice rca cable from an old sound system. i didnt really notice a change, but the reason i did it was because they cable was pretty heavily frayed.

as soon as i change the tubes ill let you know
