Prolly go for Weber Sig 6-inch alnico. Sounds pretty good in the Champion 600.

Should be arriving by end of week.

That's likely the best option for a 6-inch driver. I just don't see much potential in the OEM speaker, even if re-coned.

Update... I measured the VDC of those great Astron coupling caps. Unfortunately, they both were passing too much DC. 5.6VDC for one and 12.2VDC for the other... :(

Replaced them with some Jensen (Denmark) caps. Both measured well under 0.5 VDC passed.

Played the amp, a little, using my 1999 MIM Telecaster. Very nice tone. Though still not the OD of the 1949 Champion 600. Clean tone to about "4-5." OD starts at 6. Goes crazy, fuzzy warm at 8. Max for this amp is 12.

Play a little more tonight. :D

That would be a tough decision. They all have different tones, strengths (sometimes very slightly), & weaknesses.

The blackface VC most prolly, be the last to go. It's the most flexible amp of the Champ line. IMHO.

Caps and speaker must been breaking in, a bit. Sound is much smoother. Almost to that 1949 Champ 600 level. About 50 hours on new stuff. Played at "12" --- rattled some of the joints apart. Reset them later this week.

Bass is remarkably good for 5 watts and a 6-inch speaker. Mids-to-highs smoothing out over original tone.
