I enjoy bragging rights much like anybody else but I just don't see four grand's worth there.

If I knew I could get ALL my money back when I got tired of it I would consider buying it. For practical use I would much prefer a BF Deluxe or Princeton.

I have Tom Wheeler's The Soul of Tone and was surprised to learn that there were a few K&F Woody amps out there. The cabinets are almost identical to the Fender Woodies but the chassis' look like they were hammered together and have no face plate. But they probably sell for much more than $4k - if you can find one.

To each his own.

If you're interested in financial speculation the odds say you're better off with precious metals.

Compare the price of gold today and thirty years ago to the price of a 1954 strat today and thirty years ago.

Then what's stopping you from buying the sonofabitch?

Heart palpations?

Nagging spouse?

Fiduciary strangulation?

And the winner is.... nagging spouse.

Would her posture improve if the amp were a near-pristine example of a '64 blackface Vibroverb or Deluxe Reverb?

I fixed and held onto a Model 26, a LONG time ago. When internet was still a young novelty. :)
I don't even remember what I sold it for... pretty sure it was a trade. Maybe, for one of my first US made Telecaster guitars. Which, I don't have anymore either. Some photos of the amp:

I did keep my 1949 Champion 600. I use it about once a month. Little tone killer.

The Champion 600. One day, like to redo another woody or early tweed... Can't find good ones to restore, anymore.

Steve, if it were Christmas time I'd call that Champ a great little stocking-stuffer.

Cute!

Not likely. I have two guitars and two amps and she thinks that is to much. The fact that they are tangible, appreciating assets doesn't seem to matter.

I once tried to convince her that I could pull money out of our retirement, buy a cool, vintage collector car, drive it till I got over my mid-life crises, and then sell the car for at least what I paid - if not more. It's a win-win; drive a cool car for as long as I want for basically the price of gas. She didn't buy that for a second - despite the fact that I have two neighbors who have done exactly that!

She don't buy vintage guitars and amps as a nice retirement investment either. Thank God for that woman.

I bought a classic piece of Detroit iron about three years ago and its market value has appreciated over 15% since then.

While looking around EBay for something to restore... saw this ad for a 1955 Champ. Has "Lupe" sticker and Deluxe tube chart. Ever seen a Champ with a Deluxe tube chart?

I once saw a blackface Super Reverb with a tube chart for a 6G15 reverb tank. Now that was weird!
