Hey guys, I recently acquired a Fender Vibratone that luckily came with the original crossover wiring harness. The stock speaker was replaced with a new 8 Ohm JBL Speaker.

I now want to use the Vibratone with my Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, which by the way is a great amp. The Deluxe Reverb has a 8 Ohm internal speaker. When using the Vibratone's crossover the wiring of the internal speaker and the Vibratone's speaker would result in having two 8 ohm speakers on the main speaker output of the Deluxe Reverb, resulting in (I think) 4 Ohms. Will the amp handle the lower impedance?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have any issues. Original Vibratones were equipped with a 4Ω speaker so changing yours out to eight ohms (in addition to upgrading it to a JBL) was a wise decision.

Oooh! Vibratone. Reverb off the Deluxe plus Chorus off that Vibratone must be awesome tone. That motor can turn the heavy JBL speaker?

:)

Thanks for your answers! The 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb is not a vintage amp. Are the newer Fender amps also able to handle the impedance mismatch?

LMFAOPIMFP!!!

The speaker doesn't rotate -- the motor spins a vented styrofoam drum.

Oh ok. Don't Leslies have spinning speakers?

Thanks!

The Leslie operates on the exact same principle except the drum is made of a hard phenolic plastic (it might in fact be fiberglas). The console Leslie is a two-way speaker system with a crossover that feeds the highs to a dual HF horn/rotor assembly that spins independently of the drum. It's mounted above the drum's chamber and is driven by a second motor featuring two distinct speeds that produce the "tremolo" and "chorale" voicings.

Arjay, thanks for the explanation. I'd love to redo one of those...

One day.
