I have an amp, (not a Fender) with tube powered reverb tank. This is a brand new amp. The reverb has a hum as soon as it's turned on. Not super loud but similar to what noisy single coils sound like when plugged in. When the reverb is turned off, (there is a toggle switch), the amp is super quiet. The builder says this is normal. I've never noticed hum just from reverb before, so I wondered in you experience if you feel it's normal? I know this is not vintage related but I trust your guys opinions. Thanks.

If the builder is alleging that the hum is "normal" it's either a poorly-designed circuit or a poorly-built amp. In either case, I would return the amp and insist upon a full refund.

Drew, while I am not an amp tech...none of my amps with tube reverb are anything but quiet. And my '63 Reverb unit is dead quiet too! I think the manufacturer of that circuit might be just plain wrong here.

Thanks, he offered to take it back. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't over reacting. He had me change the tubes to lower gain, but it didn't make any difference.
