A short Post Script. I went by my local music emporium where I bought this '69 Super Reverb and showed them some pictures of what I had done with it...they offered to buy it back immediately! I had to tell them it was not for sale.

My son is digging this amp way too much, even though he has yet to start those guitar lessons from me he wanted. I guess he is just enjoying his drums and our jams together too much, but it is there for him should he change his mind.

Just curious -- did they name a figure?

$1400 was the number thrown out, but it still isn't for sale. Now if they would have been north of that by $150-$200...maybe.

That's what they would ask for it. Mebbe even $1500.

A great illustration of what some sweat equity and a few carefully selected replacement parts are worth.

Mud...The highs are crystal clear but not piercing, just accentuated VERY much. The mids are more pronounced. The bass is solid, but not nearly as tight as my 4x10 '65. I can't say for certain but I think the '68 Jensen C12Qs have a huge impact on this amps tone. The speakers have a nice break up at about 4-5 on the amp, but I don't really want to push them to 6 or higher. The speakers have the original cones and even though they have been sitting in an unused cabinet since late '68 I don't want to blow them.

I got the cab with the Jensen's from a buddy of mine over 30 years ago and have been saving them for something special and this amp seemed like the right choice.

+1...IIRC I have $900 in it total, but can't call it sweat equity it was to much fun doing the refurb!

Indeed......it's very satisfying to bring life back to an old classic. And I've always found that it gives me a new perspective on the craftsmen and craftswomen who built these beauties in the first place.

+1...Couldn't agree more. And the genius of Leo coming up with great amps with tone for days! It is amazing just going through some of the details that went into these amps. The whole chassis sliding in and then secured with the chassis straps, the tilt back legs, having an outlet on the back panel. Not to mention how they came up with the whole package together.

Feature for feature, watt for watt, or dollar for dollar, I don't think anybody beats the real Fender amps designed and built by Leo.

I would totally agree with that! Not one single company ever really had the power, market share, or features to ever push Leo aside on the amp side. In fact the only time Fender amps ever really lost market share was due to their own quality issues and that wasn't during Leo's time at the helm.

Thanks for the run down I might go through my grave yard of speaker baskets, some work, some are just skeletons, see what 12s are about, and put together a cab if the right baskets are there.

Vintage speakers are almost always worthy of a re-cone so long as the basket is not warped and the magnet structure is intact.

Oh that is for sure, and I have help many find the missing drivers or diaphragms for their vintage gear just by digging through the piles

Glad to help Mud. It really does make a change to the tone of the amp, not better or worse, just different but in a pleasant way. I sure like the tone. Go for the two twelve cab and your question got me wondering what a 4x10 cab would sound like with my '66 Bassman? Would it sound similar to a tweed Bassman or what? Hmmm. May have to do some testing some time to check it out.
