As most here know, the wheels of artifact procurement turn slowly at the Retroverbial Amp Museum & Restoration Facility but I finally found a vintage Pro Reverb worthy of ownership......

Never molested, never diddled with, all stock just as it left Fullerton in 1968. Aside from some contemporary metal-oxide screen grid resistors, the amp is all original – right down to the OEM Utah’s and the 2-conductor power cable. I don’t think this specimen saw many “combat ops” during its life, likely a low-mileage studio or church amp. It’s one of the last AA165 circuits ever made, with a final assembly date sometime in April (the later – and less desirable – AB668 revision began production in June). Aside from some minor hardware tarnish there’s very little to belie this drip-edge silverface’s 47-year existence. No casters were ever installed, no mods, nothing wonky at all. I’ll need to perform some routine safety upgrades of course but those will have no effect on the amp’s tone. And should its original speakers fail to meet my expectations, I have a pair of Fender-marked 1966 Jensen C12NA’s on hand that will put some sonic muscle back into the equation.

Nice Score Arjay!!

You do have an knack for finding the good deals. This will look nice with the current "herd" of vintage Fendar amps you have.

All you need now is a Super Reverb :D

Rawk On!

Jerry

Man! That thing looks in great shape. Drip-edge and all. Looks like some of the bypass caps may have been replaced. How about the ones under the doghouse?

BTW... looks like someone retrofitted the balance pot back to blackface bias pot circuitry.

Great find!

:D

Very nice! I bought one of those new back in 1968. That was great amp. I always like the sound of the Pro better than the Super. The two12's do the job just right.

Looks like the wait was more than worth it! What a nice clean example. Enjoy the gigs with the "New" amp.

8)

BTW ....Jerry is right, time to find that Super Reverb now!

You know that if/when the right Super Reverb comes along, I'll be happy to make it part of the museum's interactive display.

In the interim, I've decided to have those Fender-marked C12NA's re-conditioned for possible assignment to the Pro Reverb project. They'll be ready to deploy in a couple of weeks.

Hey Arjay, I'd love to hear some sounds samples of the different characteristics of the amps in your collection. Yeah I realize, the microphone/my computer speakers/YouTube's compressed format couldn't possibly do it justice ....yada yada. Still would be cool to hear them all fired up side-by-side.

That, of course, looks like another fine specimen. We wouldn't expect any less.

Thanks, Phil!

FedEx tracking says it'll be arriving mañana -- looks like I'll have my hands full this weekend doing a bench check and full assessment.

As for a new "family photo", that will take some planning. It usually requires an all-day effort to pose the "kids" appropriately.

"Interactive" part of the museum? Hmmm....What are your "Open Hours"? I could spend a few hours interacting with a few of those pieces!
