I have never used the AC accessory outlet on my 80' Deluxe Reverb. Is there any disadvantage to using it? For example, can it add noise to my setup or will it prematurely wear out the tubes? Thanks in advance.

Using the convenience outlet is perfectly safe so long as the power draw does not exceed 200 watts. I use mine to power my pedal board.

I look at schematic and AC convenient outlet are wired on amp AC cable. Not after the fuse.
In other word directly on wall outlet.

You may plug almost anything you want, like you do with a house electrical extension.

I suspect it may have been a UL thing. A higher, more realistic rating may have put the outlet in a different product class requiring more testing, or requiring design changes (like covering the bare metal chassis with insulation)?

While the outlet can probably handle just about anything you plug into it...

If I can safely do some prohibited thing, AND there's some reason to do so, I sometimes do the prohibited thing.

But there's no good scenario where you should really need to exceed its rating. Just be reassured that since it can most likely handle kilowatts, anything up to its 200W rating isn't taxing it at all

Pedalboard, lava lamp, floor fan so you can strike those Steve Vai hair-blowing-in-the-wind poses -- it's more than adequate for things like that.

It won't prematurely wear out your tubes.
It's essentially like an 18 ga. extension cord
I wouldn't plug any thing with an electric motor or a light dimmer into it, or an electric space heater.

Technically you could plug another guitar amp into it. As long as the current draw didn't exceed about 7.5 amps.

It's ideal for powering a pedal board power supply, but I don't think that's what Fender had in mind in 1964.

7.5 amps = 900 watts

The only thing I would consider plugging into it would be my voodoo labs pedalboard power supply. It sounds like I am in the clear since it won't be drawing anything from the power tubes or adding any additional noise into my setup.

My point is you can't plug "anything you want", UL says the maximum current rating for an 18 Ga. power cord is 10 amps.

Most guitar amps don't draw more than 2.5 amps.

Ixnay to a heli-arc welder or a 25 cubic-foot deep freeze as well.

I think Clarence was initially anticipating the "green" car. Ya have to get home after the gig.
