The neck dive on my Dimension is no worse than on my Precision. The strap makes a world of difference.

I don't understand comments about 'neck dive' on Fenders. Both my Precision and Jazz are perfectly balanced. I let go. Nothing happens. Neck stays put. No Dive.

I've never had the issue of neck dive, but I've had worse when your strap comes off. Luckily, no bass fatalities had occurred because of good reflexes and pure luck. :P

Not to mention Fenders are built like tanks! I've knocked quite a few fratboys in the head with a Precision over the years playing college parties etc... also I've NEVER had neck dive on any Fender... Gibsons, Ibanez and BC Rich most definitely

This is true. Nothing like a good, heavy bass in your hands. Besides the tone and sustain, it makes a fine club in case someone gets too rambunctious near the stage. :P

Why do you think that is with Gibsons?

Oh, OK. I guess there was also some issue with the head stock in danger of breaking, as well. I guess something to do with the angle of it. I don't remember, something I read a long time ago around somewhere.

Unfortunately, I had a cheapo acoustic guitar that was 3/4 size I got for free that happened to. It fell over and landed flat on the floor and that was all she wrote. That sucked, because it was a nice player with low action. The lesson there is make sure your gear is really secure, otherwise bad things could happen.

In the case? Kind of defeated it's purpose, I suppose. :P

Being a HUGE fan of Simon Gallup and Nikki Sixx, I wanted a Thunderbird for YEARS... until I borrowed one for a few gigs... sounded great, but horribly uncomfortable after playing Precisions for so long.. it felt like the entire bass was shifted over a foot.... and it had terrible neck dive, even slung low with a wide strap...

Hey, Simon taught me how to play to bass. When I started I tried to play along with or try to learn Cure songs. The few lessons I did take (mostly self-taught) I'd bring in cassettes (it was the late 80's :P ) to the instructor. The funny thing was the dude was a smooth jazz guitarist. As soon as I ever learned the movable major and minor scales, that's all I really needed to go with for a long time. Once you know that and your fret board, then it's pretty easy, especially for bass.

I briefly tried out an Epiphone Thunderbird in a store a few years back. The action felt good on it, but I imagine playing it sitting down in the studio might be kind of awkward. Standing wasn't too bad, but I know what you mean. It was kind of weird, if you're use to P's and J's. Then again, so is playing a Steinberger.

You'd think they would have figured something out about that back then, especially with the case.

My tele bass is pretty much hollow and super light(just barely over 5 pounds including the strap). Has a bit of a neck dive problem though. I use a hemp strap on it. Is course fabric and helps keep it straight. Plus it is rustic looking like the bass and the same natural color.

I have a nylon strap and when I let go, the neck starts heading south. It doesn't do this with my leather strap. I would use the leather strap but it is old and I am afraid it will rip. I need to get a good leather strap.

I played one. I liked the tone, I did not like the balance at all, too neck heavy. I don't really care for the look of it. If it was used and under $400 I would get one. I liked playing it seated, standing I was holding the neck up and after 2 or 3 sets I would be tired and irritated
