I recently acquired a Mustang bass vintage white serial # JD1300xxxx which seemed odd...I searched high and low to find manf. date and finally Fender told me it is a Japan Domestic model ,2013, thus the JD...It is stamped on the back of the neck Made in Japan, not Crafted in Japan...I got it off Craigslist from a person who had it two weeks and got it on CL also...It has really nice neck wood in perfect shape and came with a 70"s USA fender case made for short scale basses for $500....Any idea if it is worth more than a Crafted in Japan model ? Any info greatly appreciated...

You got a good buy. Fender Japan swaps "Made" and "Crafted" around sometimes for no apparent reason. The first time they did it was because of a contractor change from Fujigen Gakki to Tokai and Dyna Gakki. They did it again when they had an anniversary and for that one year they all said "Made." I don't think it matters at all value wise. All 14JD ones will say "Made" and not crafted. JD simply seems to be the latest serial prefix. It won't be worth any more than another JD14 "MADE" one. There won't be JD14 "Crafted" ones. Same people in the same plant made them so what the origin mark says really doesn't matter.

I also don't think the JD14 serials were made in 2013, but rather fairly recently and probably after July 1, 2014.
