Hi,

So I bought this project bass 20 some odd years ago and never knew what it was. At the time I could tell it had been repainted, so I sanded it down to bare wood after removing all the parts and polished the chrome to like new condition. When I bought it, the guy told me it was a '67 model.

So, this thing survived moves and Hurricane Katrina up in my Dads shop when everything else was lost. Enough story.... So, never had a neck with it, but did have the neck plate and from what I've researched the serial 199,xxx is a '67 serial.

My questions are:

1. Can anyone provide a good resource for dating the pots? They are stamped 50K AOD 324-6631

2. There are dates in pencil on the back of the pickups. Is this something that would be common to find and would it offer any validity to the dating?

So thanks for all the help everyone gave? I kept looking and found a great resource for info on dating the pots.

http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/reading_pot_codes.php

I misread the pot originally and it is actually 304-6631

The 304 code tells me it it a Stackpole Pot

The 6631 indicates manufacturing in the 31st week of 1966

Give us some pictures and we will comment on what we see.

It is hard to determine age and validity without some visuals.

Pickups were often dated but not always. If the dates are logical, they can be considered to be legitimate. Again -give us some pictures if you can.
