The first pop up was for Fender guitars- geez - this blows - every time I click another pop up comes up-- it's only on this site- maybe one of the pics or photobuckets or whatever links on here did this. No more clicking on links for me.

I like toaster strudels better than pop tarts.

Sounds like you have some sort of malware!

In the past I've had good luck with this to remove popup ads:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Sometimes though the malware will block the install or even the malwarebytes page! You may have to download the software on another machine and install it in safe mode on the invaded one.

I'd give the free version a whirl. See if that helps!

Hey Stroker- try deleting your history and use Firefox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.

The pop ups are occurring because of what you looked at previously and it is also malware of some kind.

Check out AVG for a free version of anti-virus at http://www.grissoft.com

avg is antivirus. this isn't a virus. it is malware and possibly a rootkit, so antivirus is useless to remove it. i have a feeling it isn't going to let him install anything that would remove it either. He's going to have to find the process and kill it and do some registry editing. It is a booger to get rid of popup malware installed by a rootkit installer.

If Malwarebytes won't install or doesn't cure it, you are going to need some guidance and tools to remove it. Here's a link to a site where volunteers help you do that. Read the thread titled "READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide" HERE:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

It isn't going to be easy or quick and will likely take a couple of days of messaging back and forth on the forum with a rootkit removal specialst.

:?: Man I didn't want to hear that.
Thanks though.
Brother Dave- I sent you a PM with a tech question about something I want to try with a bass. :?:

ALSO - the only place I have the PU's is on this site. My brain tells me it may have come from here. That's logic. Right ?....or am I just planting potatoes in a swimming pool?

If it was coming from Fender.Com I'd be getting them too, but I'm not. No it is malware on your computer and when it sees "guitar" it shows you popups.

The worst part is that this malware could be doing more than just showing you popups. It could also be stealing your passwords and user names via a keystroke logger or it could be using your computer as a Zombot Slave to send spam or to launch a denial of service attack on any website the controller of the master computer chooses. You need to address the malware as soon as you can. I would not be logging onto any financial sites or accounts until you are sure your machine is clean. This is one way identity thefts happen. You need to already be getting free help from:

Somehow the pop up thing loaded itself on my comp. They only came up on this site. I went to my programs and saw that it had loaded- and removed it. Now no more Fender guitar pop ups ( and other products too). I was suprized it worked when I did the uninstall. I have something else on there I need more help on. I'm not a big fan of computers but I can appreciate what they do. There're just a PIA to me.

Thanks for the info Brother dave.

Yeah all that crapware/malware installs itself. Some of it is almost impossible to remove without help such as at the link I posted. I had it happen to two computers, both times those guys helped me fix it.

I hope your pop-up problem is long gone, Stroker Vancebut I wonder if you are using an account with too many rights to surf the web.
I know that we all like to be able to install software and work on our PC but to do all that and then go posting to forums with the same administrative account is asking for trouble.

You should create a standard user account to surf the web, one that can't even set the clock on your PC.

That strategy along with some good anti-virus software can give you a chance against the internet thieves.

I'm not getting any popups -- using a Mac and Safari, so I'd have to agree too that they don't appear to be coming from the Fender site.
