So I got this concept in my head for a few weeks now. A bassguitar that has a P pickup (SPB3's) a J pickup and a fat humbucker soapbar, arranged from top to bottom H-P-J, with switches and knobs to finetune (perhaps evena jaguar style slide panel if you catch my drift).

I've been thinking of tackling this challenge myself (on the long run) and build this myself, but then I started thinking "Maybe Fender's done that or some of the more well known users Brother Dave, KingOfPain, chromeface, affprod, linnin might know where to get this or how to go about this or at least give me some pointers".

So here I stand before all of you again, outside the comfort zone of the P bass forum, with a question.

Not sure of your skill levels but you could always have a company like Warmoth build the body for you with the routes and then get the schematics for Jag type wiring and give it a try. Or find a used body and have it routed to fit that configuration and either cut a pickguard or have one custom made.

You could accomplish that fairly easily. Pick out a P/J body and then have it routed out for the humbucker/soapbar of your choice. Paint it. Then assemble it with the pick-ups; elctronic components, and bridge of your choice. Pick your neck of choice and Rock On! 8) All you need is money

wire it like a strat- but use the custom wiring that alows the treble to work on all the pickups - go with the 5 way switch

That would be a simple solution. But you would not have all the fancy-schmancy series/parallel and config control like the jag. Granted I think that much tonal control is a bit overkill if going for something this experimental it could be pretty cool.

Too bad i suck at diagrams and drawing.
So it has never been done before.... Interesting.
What kind of pups should I put in for the jazz and the humbuck?

Also are there fender diagrams I could use as a jumpstart? if so which ones?

By now you can tell Iḿ not an experienced builder, but I got a guy for the electronics and I got a source for woodwork. But I appreciate all the input

There are so many choices as far as which brand and model pups to use and then there are also passive and active. So all anyone here can do is give you their personal choice based on subjectivity. Depending on your budget you can use anything from used Fender to custom hand wound and they will all do the job. Granted it is not always accurate and it depends on the player/amp you can go to youtube and search for players using the pickups live to get an idea if it is what you are looking for and compare.

As far as diagrams you can find almost anything via a google search. If you have someone good at electronics and soldering they will find nothing easier then wiring up a guitar, even something a bit more complex like a Jag is childs play to an electronics person.

  The very last thing you want is a Gibson style 'mudbucker', but rather a humbucking pickup with clarity and definition such as this DiMarzio "Will Power".
http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/bass/standard-bass/will-power-neck

"The Will Power™ Neck Model is very deep-sounding with great low-end definition. Its dimensions are the same as the Model One™, but it’s a little louder and fatter-sounding...a broader magnetic field lends more impact to individual notes and harmonic overtones."

yay update. I made a drawing and i've decided to go with the Will Power soap bar combined with a SPB3 (havent decided on a single jazz bar) and a badass bridge since i've heard a lot of positive stuff about em. PLUS, my ole grandfather agreed to help me with the electronics (he used to build radios... i bet he still does).
going to try to get me an ebony 24 fret neck.
And the pup tone control will be done with a jaguar styled slide system with a master volume knob.

On paper that is...
Now to find someone to do the wood and to find me some wiring diagrams that might give me a headstart (paging brother dave)

IMHO- I personally would have you search these forums and check out all the stuff about badass bridges just so you have a fair pro and con thing going on. I'm NOT saying yes or no- but to be fair - if you already have searched- okay sorry. Some guys like them(BA's) and some don't. And both sides give good info.
