I really like that cut of Wild Night and it is the one we play.

Kind of funny because Me'Shell and I actually have a lot in common.. Oh sure, she is a lot younger, in a lot better shape, has more talent, and primarily plays that other brand.....but did you check out our hair?

I'm telling ya.....just saying.....

Hey Now! Pull a Jimi at your next jam. Bring some Zippo lighter fuel and light that LP bass on fire. Then dance around it chanting "Gibsons Suck! Gibsons Suck!" Then you can all go out for doughnuts afterwards while the fire department puts out the house fire. Make sure someone takes some good video for youtube. We don't want to be left out.

It is not a house however but a studio....trying to decide if that makes it more or less funnier.

Linnen, Mr. Hendrix used RONSONOL lighter fluid in the yellow package with the blue cap and yellow spout, not Zippo in the white and red package with a white cap. Sheesh! He was a Ronsonol devotee due the larger stream from the Ronsonol packaging. Zippo cans just dribble.

Would you believe he had signed a lucrative endorsement deal with Ronsonol to do a series of ad campaigns for them the day he died and was celebrating the deal when he joined Rock & Roll Heaven? Ok made that up, but he used Ronsonol on stage. Never Zippo that I've ever seen.

So you think he would be more pissed off if he found out I burned his guitar and studio using the wrong vintage lighter fluid?

+1

I was an eyewitness, from a distance of about ten meters.

I told them that was not going to happen so they had Schecter make me a 4 string that used the top 4 of a 5 string and it seemed to appease the band. But to me my P-bass still sounded better when I simply tuned it down. Meh, to each his/her own. I have nothing against free instruments.

The top 4 strings of a 5 string bass is a standard 4 string bass! WTF?

No they are not. The strings are much heavier gauge. For example I typically use heavy gauge which starts at 105 gauge to 45. The bass they gave me started at 135 ish. Just try to string up your 4 string with the first 4 of a 5 string heavy set and let me know how it pans out

Now other then what they did to the nut I am not sure if it took anything else then the right set-up, intonation and truss rod adjustments. I really did not ask..I was just impressed they did it for little ol me. They might have had to mess with the saddles and frets as well but I can't be sure. The info they had was I like ultra low "buttah" action and downtune a step and a half to 2 steps on the heavy E and the others 1/2 to a full step down depending.

OK - I misunderstood you when you said top 4 strings of a 5 string bass. You were speaking of the top 4 strings relative to the floor and I was thinking top 4 strings relative to their pitch!

It may be clearer to those following from home to say that your bass used the bottom 4 strings of a 5 string bass. Actually, a lot of players do this since they want the low notes.

I prefer a standard 4 string bass. it does the job w/o sounding like the bass pedals of an organ.

Yeah I also get confused when someone says "top of the neck" and to me it means up by the headstock and to the other person it means by the heel. Just a technicality

Well I certainly prefer a 4 string or would not have put the band and Schecter through that when I was perfectly happy with my P bass and they would of let me have any 5 string of my choice. Now I personally think 5 strings sound spectacular but most players I see use them never use all 5 strings. For me it is just a comfort thing. The neck on 5ers feel too fat for me and I do feel there is an extra string in the way. However sonically when you are playing in a band that down tunes to B flat....you need that giant string and a bass that can deal with it.

Also the band used electronic samples etc and it required that lower register to enhance it correctly otherwise I could have used standard tuning and played an octave up....but that would have sounded too thin.
