Interesting stuff, this String Fuel. It's more for the 6-stringers than it is for us bottom bangers.

I first thoroughly cleaned the GHS Precision Flats on my '76 Precision with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. They weren't very dirty at all. My fingers don't sweat when I play. Nor are they acidic or caustic. {My Humor, However, Is :wink: }

These flats are about 7 months old and have 'come into their own' tonewise. The very last thing I wanted to do was change them in anyway.

I applied the 'String Fuel'. I applied it alot. I wiped it off 'til the strings sang. Then I did it again.

I put the bass away overnight.

I just pulled it out. Tuned. Jammed.

Fabuloso!

Couldn't ask for better. Super well seasoned tone & attack. I hope String Fuel makes these strings last all that much longer.

NO, but it is a very light blend of oils that sinks into the strings. So it is important to let it season overnight. It feels great when you play it. It's not silicon like 'Fast Fret'.

My Jazz has about 90 day old roundwounds on it. Not dead yet, but going that way fast.

I cleaned them very well with alcohol several times. After a half an hour wait for evaporation, I applied the string fuel very evenly on each string. I wiped each string down until it began to sing.

Most so called 'string cleaners' kill the strings. Not so String Fuel. It's not Jesus Christ and wont raise the dead. But if your strings are showing their age and headed towards oblivion give it a shot.

So I did. Should String Fuel kill the strings, I had a brand new set in reserve.

String Fuel did not make my rounds sound like new, nor did it it kill the timbre that was left in the strings.

Right now, I am just in a wait and 'hear' mode.

Played my Jazz late last night with 48+ hours since the application of the 'String Fuel' on a 2/3rds dead set of roundwounds. Subjectivity is a tough thing to try to tame, but I do think 'String Fuel' has some restorative power especially in the low growl & punch in the low mid-range. The strings sure feel good to play too, so there is a definite tactile improvement just as on the flatwounds. I will continue to experiment with a second application next week or so.

If you have a lot of basses either in storage or some kind of long term rotation then 'String Fuel' is certainly worthy of your consideration.

Music Nomad is a very cool organization. Check 'em out 8)

Is it more like a graphite base? A type of dry lube?

No, "String Fuel is a hybrid blend of refined naturally occurring oils that are speed blended with premium quality mineral oils to deliver a string cleaner & lubricant unlike any other. Our proprietary formulation allows you to both clean & protect your strings to last longer and sound better while reducing finger noise and enhancing the speed you can slide your fingers. It’s silicone free & safe for any finish and even conditions unfinished fretboard wood." - See more at: http://www.musicnomadcare.com/string_fu ... AuCNm.dpuf

and of course nylon strings don't require fueling

This is very interesting for metallic strings. I may get some for a couple of flatwound string sets I have that came off a couple of Fender Fretless basses.

OK! Put a second application of String Fuel on the D'Addario roundwounds (EXL-170BT) on my Jazz bass. Let that application season for 5 days. Just played that bass, and am happy to report that my strings do indeed sound better. Not brand new, but better

The E string was going quite nasal, and when it did I ordered a new set. The E always goes first. I ordered 'String Fuel' at the same time. Well the E is no longer nasal. The set now exhibits strong punch and low mid growl along with high mid snarl. They were all on their way out, but 'String Fuel' helped bring them back.

Yes, the best answer is to instal new strings, but I've found that 'String Fuel' will give you some renewed tone and definitely increases the longevity of your string life.

I put a second application on the GHS Precision flats on my '76 Precision. Will wait a few days, and then report back. I'm already very pleased with the results on flats. Moreso than on rounds. If you have a much beloved set of flats that you'd rather keep than change, try 'String Fuel'. Well worth the $7.

I'm running GHS Big Core Bass roundwounds on my Jazz now. After a month I gave them their first application of 'String Fuel' and let that soak in overnight. After my positive experience with 'String Fuel' on a dying set of D'Addario's, I wanted to hear any difference in a relatively new set of rounds confident that it wouldn't kill 'em.

I have to say I'm sold on 'String Fuel'. I've found it to preserve your tone and add some longevtivity. For roundwounds I'd say it will add a good 30 days or so to the life of your stringset. So if you're going through 4 sets a year, now you'd only need 3. That's a substantial savings. Plus the stuff makes your strings easier to play and reduces dreaded 'string screech'.

Hey linnin......I like it. Been using it on some newer reissues to see if it has any effect on the fretboard, but I am not noticing any negatives. Thanks.

 Groovy!

I think I will try some of their "F-Oil" for fretboards, next time I change strings on my Jazz.
