Hello,

Can a Fender Jazz Bass reproduce Peter Hook's sound (New Order) from the 80s, or do I need to specifically have a Precision Bass?

Good first post mselby47, and welcome to the forum. Only a Precision actually sounds like a Precision. A jazz can come close. How close to you need to be really??? The bass is heavily processed plus a lot of synth going on. Your jazz should do just fine.

Actually, Peter Hook used a Yamaha BB1200 bass, which was an active pickup version similar to a P-Bass, but neck-through and the pick up installed in a reverse configuration. He also used an Electro-Harmonix Clone Theory pedal. If you really want to get a tone as close as possible, I'd go for a Yamaha BB series bass over any Fender. I suppose a P-Bass would be OK if you already own one, but why bother if you have to buy one? The Yamaha would be a much better choice, in my opinion if you want to copy his sound.
