Hey guys im new here. As I know you are quite familiar with Fender product lifespan, how much do you think is left for the Fender Bass VI? Right now im trying to save up for one, but im getting quite paranoid that the reissue for this rare instrument only lasts for a small period of time before being discontinued... So what do you think guys?

I think you should hurry! I like the Fender Pawn Shop expression of the Bass VI. The Squier version is in high demand, and has had some set-up issues as delivered from the factory as reported by forum member CPL. http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=91180

The production will probably not more than a season, but they are producing a lot, and there are gong to be a lot of bass players who are not going to enjoy the transition to a baritone bass - so there is going to be some quick used ones turning up. I think you have some time, but I wouldn't dawdle if you want one.

Are you looking at the $800 import or the $4K FCS USA? Only reason I ask, is if you are looking at the Custom Shop jobs, you might want to dip your toe into the vintage market. I have seen original Bass VIs going just a bit more, and how cool would that be?

Oh, you saw that. I'd say so, it was friggin' unplayable! It went beyond a set up to a poorly installed neck. I couldn't even tune the strings or anything. Total P.O.S. Needless to say, it was returned and I'm getting a refund. I'm not even going to bother waiting for another one and risk another issue. I suppose the honeymoon with Squier is over. :P You'd think with a brand like Fender, the quality control would be a little better than to send out a guitar with a screwed up neck. I know it's not some expensive instrument, but it should at least be playable. At least my Tele is a nice guitar, so I guess it's a crap shoot. The Rumble still stands in high regards, too.

I have the MIJ LTD re-issue which I purchased late last Spring. I was considering the Pawn Shop, but I wanted more of the vintage vibe so a pulled the trigger on the MIJ when it was announced. I'm running it through an Orange Crush 50BXT which serves my purposes at the moment in that it fits in my gear closet. No complaints. There's an article in Tech Talk which ya'll might have a look at for your edification.

I've always felt the Japanese-made Fenders were nice instruments, at least the ones I've owned and played. I've had good luck with those back in the day when you could really get them here, before they started making everything in Mexico, and not really importing them here anymore. One of the nicest instruments I had was a 90's (probably '93 or around there-bought new) Japanese-made 50's reissue P-Bass. It was white with the gold pick guard and it had a strap button on back of the head stock. Sweet action (the best I ever got with a Fender that I played,) nice, smooth neck, and classic P-Bass tone. I was stupid to get rid of it, but in youth, hasty decisions are often made and regretted.
