I found what I liked, and stayed with them. My fretless came with the Fender flats on. Gone. Image

My fretless came with some kind of string using the same color code as D'Addario. Hmm. Played them briefly and they worked well. When I put on the nylon strings, the tone I was looking for emerged. Having nylon strings is one of the reasons I would even use the guitar. It is a different sonic template. I see me keeping metal strings on my primary bass but, spending more time on my fretless could change that. I do not prefer metal over nylon or vice versa. I have utility for both. I bought the fretless as much for using nylon strings as for the fretless sound and experience. Finding the sweet spot of a note is something the fretless excels at. Providing one has the hearing acuity for it. There is a nuance to the "right" note that depends as much on mode as it does mood.

Sorry, I got off on a rant.

My fretless came with flats, with green silks. The last Am. Std. Fretless I had came with the same string.
