And the winner!

Rotosounds by a mile. They just feel and sound good.

I have the Rotos on my fretless. I can see faint roundwound lines on the fretboard when I look in the light at the right angle. I'm not changing them though. I don't care bout' no stinking lines. It's not an expensive bass. I'm not sure I'd care if it was expensive.
Not to jump to a different thing or anything but I ran my fretless thru my black bean and got some neat sounds. The black bean is better for bass than the kidney bean is for guitar.
AND Oxyman- how are you taking to the fretless? I got out some Jazz notations and went over them. Fretless seems to need more attention but I think I'm falling into it. How about you?

I've gotten into the fretless thing all the way. Number one, she has the sweetest neck I've ever played, that alone is enough to make me want to play it more. Fretless is a lot different than fretted, (DUH), it takes a lot of work and time to relearn and unlearn habits we've picked up. If you want to do anything well, it takes effort. I said in an earlier post, playing fretless will make you a better bass player. It teaches discipline.

I can't find that deal where you get a strap! I want a strap!

Sidenote; I put Boomers on my Precision and other Jazz, both sets were short! Never had that before!

I tell you, Linnin. My Elixir strings on my bass are two years old now and could use changing. I think going with the DR string will be my next purchase. I wish the Blue was available but the Green can work. White is drawing me too but, Green will probably get the nod.

I also use the Nylon bass strings Mr. Nylon uses on my fretless Ibanez and acoustic Ibanez basses. I love the tone. Lost volume with them on my acoustic but, phosphorus strings, though nice and loud, bright too, are noisy when moving on the fretboard. Something very obvious in an acoustic setting.

The warmth of the nylon strings really shows up on my fretless. I see always using them on this bass. Might try chrome flats for my acoustic.

I think the Chrome Flats on your acoustic would be Great! Capital Idea!

There is a set of Nylons on the launch pad ready for my Fretless, when it arrives hopefully Thursday. I love the sounds my "Electric Lady" PBass puts out with the CS60's pup, and the Nylons on board. The Maple board on her is pretty good too.
The Black Pearl PG showed up Monday, to replace the Tort. PG for the Fretless. Fender shipped it out FAST! Way to go Fender!

Well you were correct about the nylon strings so when I re-string my acoustic it will be chrome flats. The nylons are only a few months old, maybe on another bass not yet purchased.

We clearly have some tastes in common.

Maybe it's an older gentleman kinda thing.

Some of it too is common sense. The new style Nylons are so superior to the older style from the past that many may have tried, and didn't like. The older style Nylons were lousy.

So lousy, in fact, that I will never, ever, never have nylon tapewound strings on any bass that I own ever again. No matter how much better they have become, that's just not a sound that I want.

The D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Strings are very nice. The sound they produce was unexpected. They have a warm, rich tone and, of course, they're easy on the fingers.

The Markbass head, with the 410 cab has so much bottom to it. Very well suited to Nylons on Precisions, or Jazzes.

It's a damned nylon conspiracy, that's what it is! From lofty Rotosound beginings this thread descends down, down, down into a queasy nylon hell!

Look up my Fender Brothers & Sisters! Up into the roundwound heavens! Put on your cool looking shades & dance into the funky future! 8)
