How's the quality of build and authenticity of materials track record for MIC Fender products?

Anyone seen the Coronadoes first hand yet?

I have not seen a New Fender Coronado but to vouch for China, the Classic Vibe Squires are very nice so I would reserve judgement until you see one.

Fender's MIC stuff is amazingly good.

In fact in general MIC guitars and basses based on Fender designs have been decent since way before Fender China cranked up.

Brands like Jay Turser and SX found out over a decade ago that China contractors could make good instruments cheap and became two of the early MIC brands making decent electric solid body instruments. Turser won some quality awards including a 2011 Guitar Player Editor's Choice award fairly recently. They just kept getting better.

SX finishing is very nice and Turser's pickups have been very, very good. Electronically the MIC ones beat Fender Japan, but in all honesty that wouldn't take much. Fender Japan has a slight edge on fit. Finish? It is a tie.

There are shortcuts of course with cheaper hardware than on the USA ones and different quality woods. but China is about on par with MIM and Fender Japan ones. I'd have no trouble buying a Fender badged bass made in China. In fact I'd say it is very likely that I will. I like gigging with good but inexpensive instruments. If Fender China came out with a full 34 inch scale first generation Fender badged P-Bass (similar to the Squier 50's Classic Vibe) in something approaching Fender Blonde I'd buy at least one for sure and maybe more. I like the Blacktop bass also.

Played a Coronado today. Fit and finish was excellent, I was especially impressed with the binding on the neck. I didn't like the position of the strap pin on the neck end--don't think you could put a strap lock on it as it is under the neck against the body. Initially I liked the sound of the Coronado better than the Starcaster but after dialing the amp in left the store with a natural Starcaster--it has the strap pin on the forward bout of the body and strap locks go on just fine. Both instruments were first class!!
