Just bought a starcaster bass. Love the guitar, it's exactly what I wanted. However, neglected to tell me there's no case for the thing. So right now I have it wrapped up in a blanket and a box. Anybody got a solution that's available now?

This is the SKB-3i-4214-OP case that you mention (http://www.skbcases.com/music/products/ ... &c=75&s=75). Has anyone bought this case and used it for a starcaster bass or electric guitar? I can't tell from the dimensions on the SKB site if this will fit, and at $250 per case, I don't want to purchase a case that needs to get sent back. This is the link to that case on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/SKB-Injection-Ele ... 3i-4214-OP

I won't buy by mail too.

Why don't you go to see a guitar dealer ?

I agree. Take a run over to you local big box dealer where they can fit it properly. $250 for a case is too much. I buy SKB and Gator cases in the $100-$150 area and I have no complaints. The Gator runs a bit more but has full neck support and fits oddballs like my Performers. The SKB fits Jazz and Precisions nicely for $25 less. Not knowing your Starcaster dimensions, I would take it in.

I also have a Starcaster but no case. I ended up getting a gig bag as an interim measure. How did Fender manage to come out with a killer bass without considering what to put it in?

This is all they have for now. Hard cases coming at the end of February for both Starcaster and Coronado basses and guitars.

Went to the big box music stores to try a variety of cases. That was an exercise in futility. Found a nice case with "Epiphone" printed on it. It fit 85% of the bass--body was a super fit. Unfortunately, the headstock sort of stuck out (too long and E string tuning maching ear stuck out the side). The closest they came with a fit was a Body Glove soft side case but you had to really push the body into the bottom and I didn't like the pressure on the PU switch. At least the bass took a ride in the car.

Found a fit! The Epiphone Jack Casady bass case will fit a Starcaster bass. I called Sweetwater and one of the fine sales engineers (Dontae) actually got a Starcaster and the case and married them up and sent me pictures via email. This case is much less expensive than the SKB and the only downside is the "Epiphone" on the outside of the lid. One manly fix would be to cover it with some duct tape....

Here's the case that fits this bass

Cases are important!!! I have a fender performer and the latches and hinges were going to hell and no guitar shop would work on a case--and they acted like a properly fitting case is no big deal just throw it out and cram your ax into some generic one size fits all soft sided crap. Anyhoo, luggage repair or shoe repair places are worth a try if an old case needs some TLC, forty bucks for all new buckles and hinges was definitely worth it!

The Fender hard case part number for the Starcaster/Coronado guitar is 099-6182-306. The part number for the Starcaster Bass guitar is 099-6192-306. However, both cases are very hard to find.
