I found this one up on CL, even the seller is unsure if it is actually a Fender. Any clues on this one? I'm very doubtful that it is IMO, most likely a copy as to seeing the odd overall construction of it and the off looking "Fender" logo.

The string tree position is set low on the head. It's usually just to the right of the A string peg, and off-set from parallel to it.

That's not even a decent counterfeit! The Fender logo looks like it was done by hand with a Sharpie by a pretty good artist, and that's the best part of that ummmm....thing.

They do look like Gibson speed knobs, and the locations of the knobs don't look right..

I think it's real and has a corkwood body.

That just screams fake. Two jazz pickups in a precision body? Speed knobs? That logo is not correct at all.

+1000!

It's a FAKE!

The rear Jazz pickup is located in a wrong position and NOT near the bridge which is the correct placement.

I was thinking Sharpie as well--it may have been someone who just wanted a Fender, got that thing, and decided to draw on it--but they should have covered it up before giving it away or selling it (If the seller isn't the one who wrote on it) and if they are the same person, then they should have sad it wasn't a Fender, and shouldn't leave any doubt.

that's the bass you play at the party where everyone busts- up their instruments at the end of the night.

It is not a Fender and it probably has no Fender parts on it.
Every dimension of that bass is off from what a Fender Precision would be.

It may be the Secret Fenton Farnsworth signature prototype!

If so - its worth may be incalculable!!

Say you heard it here first.

Just for the record, Fenton took great offense at that remark. He only played fender basses, except for the one time he woke up with a Gibson Thunderbird, he won't talk about that. To this day he claims it was a prank perpetrated by John Entwistle.
