Where do you get them?

I like the fact the Coronado is a semi hollow body instead of hollow body. I think that was what limited the originals. At some point I want to do a head to head with the my 67 and the new one. Actually looking forward to that. Should be interesting.

Good point Affprod, ..let us know your opinion when you play them sided by side...........I'm guessing the new Corinado's with dual Fideli Tron's would be full sounding....

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. :P

Fender keeps coming out with new stuff that seriously makes me question my decision to get a Jazz Bass as my next instrument purchase. I have to say I've always wanted a semi-hollowbody or hollowbody bass ever since I started playing bass, and plus having more than 20 frets definitely fits the bill.

This was a problem I had with most Fenders is they have a 20-fret neck, except the P-Bass Lyte I have has 22. There is a song, at the coda, that I play a pattern way high on the neck that incorporates that high "E." With a 20-fret neck, I wouldn't be able to play that and either I would have the choice of only playing this song on the P-Bass Lyte (which I wanted to retire for live use,) or play something different which I feel wouldn't sound as good.

Now, here's a chance to get almost everything I wanted in a bass in one package! 8)

You would think it was a conspiracy to sell basses!

Get the MIA Jazz, you will have no complaints, then try other mediums.

The new ones would about have to be better. The original Coronado I and II basses are pretty, but sort of a disappointment tone wise.

I agree, ...they'd have to be better than the originals, ......it seems all guitar makers are
including hollow body basses to their lines.... Ibanez, Gibson/Epiphone, D'angelico,Framus, just to name a few..& Guild has re- introduced the Starfire Bass..

Sorry, James. These new models are made in China. Don't know why Fender isn't making these and some of the other newer models in Mexico anymore. The China builds aren't very good. I got a Tim Armstrong Hellcat acoustic for Christmas 2012, and it's been repaired twice already. Bridge was crap, then inner bracing coming loose had to be re-glued.

I've noticed about different companies making them. It didn't seem even over ten years ago that there really was any available, other than vintage ones. They're something that has always appealed to me stylistically, but never really seemed to be available anywhere I lived. The way an instrument looks is just as important to me as the way it sounds. If it looks too generic, even though it might sound amazing, I'll be less likely to want to play it, and it will be a waste of money.

I've had Jazz basses (US made in fact) in the past, and I've actually had complaints with them (one had a problematic neck) and replaced them with other instruments. I wouldn't say they are the top of the list for me, now that there are other options that appeal to me more that weren't there before previously. I can't really afford a US-made one right now, as nice as that may be. Maybe if I come into some money I might get one.

I can't consider buying a bass unless it goes up to E, so 21 frets is a must for me. If somebody gifted me a 20 fretter it would be gladly accepted. My bass has 24 frets and I like that best.

Yeah, it's not like I'm constantly way up the neck, but that one note really adds something to the end of this particular song in the pattern I'm playing. It's actually a similar pattern I'm doing for the main verse, but an octave higher (it's in E minor.) I guess it's just one of those things that can happen if you write something on one particular instrument that happens to be in a position that couldn't be easily transposed to another with a different set up. It's funny that I've never even had this issue before, but it just worked out this way.

It's too bad Fender doesn't make this Jazz Bass anymore: Image

That would be mighty handy, too.
