How many times do you change bass strings in your life? If you play out and play roundwounds, quite a bit! This gear is for you. For you couch potatoes running flats, go back to sleep.

I used to envy g-wankers {guitarists} with their fancy-schmancy string winders every time I had to change strings. Well NO More!

Enter Planet Waves (a division of D'Addario) Bass Pro-Winder!

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/WinderProBs/

Tah-Dah!

Now string changing is much faster and way easier!

Not only that, but there's a handy nipper that'll cut your string ends down to size quick as two shakes of a lamb's tail. {that's pretty damn quick, btw}

It works, and works well. {that means it's well designed} It's inexpensive. {it's cheap}

It squeaks when you wind on the new strings. Whoopee. Use oil. Squeak gone.

It's about time bass players got some respect from the string changing world! 8)
I'm glad I have one. Highly Recommended {Many Starz}

I quit using winders when I damaged a bass.

But more import, reading your post, you said flats players should go back to sleep. I almost did until I remembered I play rounds on my Js and other non Ps. So I am just dozing. Hope that is okay.

Dozing is just A-OK, Steve. :lol:

Just what did you do with that winder???

Have you quit using straps since you damaged your Jaco with one? :roll:

I have one, but I prefer to do restringing by hand.

I am convinced that the proper use of a winder is far superior to hand winding. The ability to smoothly and consistantly wind the string on the tuning post allows for a much more uniform string installation. Rather than the turn-stop; turn-stop, turn-stop of hand winding. By being able to the crank the tuning key at a slow and steady rate (R.P.M. if you will) one is better able to guide the string for proper wrapping around the tuning post all while keeping consistant tension on the string throughout the process. Which is something that simply cannot be achieved under the 'turn-stop' handicap of hand winding.
