The completed Fender Performer family portrait.

Kind of cool to finally see all five in one place.

If that is not the only private collection like that in the world it is at least the only one that I know about! Very nice! Finding two of these is no easy task.

Collecting these was a lot of fun. I got hooked awhile back because I enjoyed playing them so much. I think the Tobacco Burst was the first Fender bass I ever purchased as a collectable. I gig with the white one sometimes. What amazes me is how pristine the four metal flake finishes are. Brother Dave, do you have any info on why those finishes have held up so nicely and are so rich and deep?

Zontar, yes, the only basic difference between them is the color, although the finish on the burst is different, the other four are metal flake. The Performer was only available in five colors the one year it was made. Also, there is an age appropriate Hipshot extender on the white one. When I called them I was somewhat surprised that drop d tuning went back that far - and then some.

Oxfan - I can't believe you suggested I cloned them. I can't afford that! Photoshop is much cheaper and the spray paint was only $2.99, on sale at the Hardware Man.

I think you've been exposed and are backpedaling. You have that, "Hiding out in disguise mad scientist thing" working.

Mwa Ha Ha....you have seen through my clever disguise, it is I, Fenton Farnsjworth! I hacked affprod's account just to have fun with you and some of the other Fender dudes and dudettes.

Reminds me of my days with the Dave Clark Six.

Now I am off on another adventure, but I will leave affprod the five Performers as a thank you.

Brother Dave,

On a serious note. It truly is a cool collection. I have derived a great deal of enjoyment from assembling the entire series under my roof and just get a bang out of seeing them altogether. I will likely sell them now that the chase is over, but I will sell it as a collection. As long as they are mine, they will remain a collection. If that means I own them forever, I am just fine with that. After all, they are a blast to play, and a pleasure to look at.

I've never seen more than three together before, and I have done a lot of looking in my efforts to complete this. Your comment that it could be the only private collection in the world....wow, how cool would that be?

I thought it was interesting that I located the last one while in St. Lucia, doing volunteer work. Maybe that was the vibe needed. Made in Japan, the five basses have lived in three countries (not including Japan) that I am aware of. Cool history.

Steve

Fenton, you knuckehead! Where the hell are you? stroker vance and I have been waiting for you for the last three days. I know about your issues, but you promised and we put money out for reservations.

Look you niwit, you're gonna get into a lot of trouble over this one!

Nicely done. Alainlafrance would certainly be interested in that group. Not to rain on your parade, but I'd love to see that body resurrected for both guitar and bass, with, perhaps, a more complementary headstock, like the upper horn, for an idea. For sure it's a design which would be amenable to a certain youth market in guitars.

I've never seen one in person, but that is a pretty sweet collection.

Before you ever consider selling them it would be interesting to find out if it was the only private collection of it's kind.

Yeah what he said! Really is cool to see a pic of the whole lot of Performers in one shot! Nice- I'm suprised I never saw this thrized untill now. A friend of mine has a pink metallic or rose metallic 6 string Performer. I would imagine they are pretty rare too.

Hi Steve. We talked Performers a while back either on this forum and/or via PM or emails. I have three Performer basses (those with more free time than I can search this forum for pics) and wanted to offer congratulations for finding the last piece of the puzzle. Fantastic!

Really pleased to see this. Hope you get a lifetime of enjoyment from them, and/or a healthy profit if and when the time comes.
