I'm looking for a fretless bass, preferably Fender, but quite cheap. Any ideas or recomendations are welcome.

So hopefully he will see this and gives his thoughts on it. Here are some reviews on it. VM Fretless Jazz Bass

I think Ally has the same one too. I've played 'em before, nice bass.

I have played the standard jazz fretless before and loved their sound! Those are a little bit pricier but still a good bargain. The VM Squiers are really good and cheaper than the standard MIM!

The Squier is an excellent choice for an inexpensive Fret-less with the Fender Jazz Bass/Jaco vibe out of the gate. Anybody, even a professional looking to test the fret-less waters would dig this bass.

'Have happily used a MIM Stanard Jazz Bass for 7 years, right out of the box, no setup required.

I have a 96 MIM Jazz Bass fretless, and it is really great. For a while I only used it on a few songs a night, the Last few months I use it more than any of my other basses. It was willed to me after my buddy who bought it originall passed away. It took me a year or so after getting it to be able to take it out of the case.

I tried one of the Squier Models, These are really nice too, but I found the sound was good, the pickups didn't have as much power you had to crank up the vol on the amp up about a notch and a half

Here is an article from BP mag...

http://www.bassplayer.com/article/squie ... v-06/23890

It doesn't list it, though it won an Editors Award from Bass Player.

The article really nails it.. very Jaco like...(good thing)..great bass...particularly for the $.

I've got the squier and it plays and sounds like a dream, the tones are sweet though i did mod my pick ups but as a first or another fretless bass i really do recommend this bass to everyone and anyone.
